A Letter of Thanks

Dr. Marilou McPhedran, Principal

May 20, 2010

Dear Dr. McPhedran,

I am a Cameroonian, currently residing in Nigeria, who benefited from the selfless service to humanity offered by the University of Winnipeg Global College. I have been a grateful beneficiary (2007 & 2009) of two Graduate Student Exchange Program (GSEP) Grants from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), Ottawa, Canada , awarded to Dr Michael O. Eze and Dr. Keith R. Fowke. For these awards, I remain profoundly thankful to the Canadian Government and the Global College.

Thanks to the grants, I was able to successfully carry out quality research on the “Effects of Herbal Principles on Lymphocyte Activation: Applicability to HIV Research” under the supervision of Dr. Michael O. Eze of the Department of Chemistry, University of Winnipeg, and Dr Keith R. Fowke of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, University of Manitoba. Michael and Keith are models of quality of feedback over quantity whose unique points of view always left me with food for thought. The time I spent in their research laboratories in Winnipeg, Canada had tremendous impact on how I approached my Ph.D. research project in specific terms and as a scientific endeavour in general. The research I did in their Labs constituted a major part of my Ph.D. thesis, which I have been able to successfully defend at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria.

I am, therefore, delighted to extend my hearty gratitude to the University of Winnipeg Global College for supporting my two sojourn visits to Winnipeg for research. I will forever be indebted to you all for your humane disposition, generosity and invaluable contributions towards the realization of my dream.

Your kind gestures have put a smile on my face and the faces of many others in Africa and other developing countries, and we will forever remain grateful to you. I quite literally could not have been a Ph.D. holder today without you. Your hospitality and goodwill were the fuel that powered the entire project.

THANK YOU all very much and may the good Lord continue to bless all your endeavors, as you continue to lend your helping hand to the less privileged in Africa and other developing countries. Remember, 'those whose milk of human kindness drops on others shall always receive rewarding replenishment'.
