Rights and Democracy Student Network

The Rights and Democracy Delegation at UWinnipeg is back this year and sending out a call for any students interested in a group that:

  • focuses on promoting human rights and democracy;
  • provides resources that allow students to learn more about human rights, democratic development and globalization;
  • supports professional development and internship and employment opportunities;
  • creates spaces where students can share ideas with the international community and to carry out activities that "put the world to rights".

Why should I join Rights and Democracy?
Because you are interested in global and local human rights and development issues and want to be a part of projects that highlight these issues at U of W.

What is a Network? Who is Rights and Democracy?
The Rights & Democracy Network is an initiative through which Rights & Democracy creates spaces in Canadian and foreign universities and encourages students to come together, propose and initiate activities that promote human rights and democracy.

Since the launch of the Network in September 2003, our efforts, combined with the financial support of Foreign Affairs Canada, have led to the creation of student associations known as Rights & Democracy Delegations in nearly 40 Canadian universities.

When do you meet?
Wednesdays, in Room 4M39, from 1130 to 1230.

What is the commitment level?
Whatever you want: come up with ideas for projects, help at events, help plan events, attend meetings, poster...Membership is free and gives you access to the website and sends you a Newsletter everyone once in a while. The link is http://www.rightsdemocracy.net Click on Manitoba to find us!

Are there positions open to me?
If you are thinking 2008-09, definitely!

Upcoming events?
We are holding our General Meeting on Wednesday, March 12 from 11:30am to 1:00pm.
We are also co-hosting this year's Western Regional Event with U of M and CUSB.....
If you want to join us at this event, you must be a member of the Network.
