Pre-Professional Programs

Many professional programs require the completion of some study before you apply for admission. U Winnipeg provides you with the preparatory courses needed to fulfill the admission requirements at other Canadian universities.
Pre-Architecture
Architects are concerned with designing and supervising the construction of buildings or environments for living. In our pre-professional program, youll complete your first year (30 credit hours) in Pre-Architecture to meet the entrance requirements to apply to the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba.
Pre-Chiropractic
The University of Winnipeg is an excellent place to fulfill the entrance requirements for the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and other chiropractic schools. In order to apply to a Chiropractic school, you first need to complete a three-year degree (90 credit hours) - either a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts. Pre-Dental Hygiene
Dental hygienists are oral health professionals whose main focus is health promotion and disease prevention. They work in dental offices, hospitals, clinics, government health departments, schools and in industry. In the Pre-Dental Hygiene program here, youll complete one year (30 credit hours) of study to fulfill the entrance requirements for dental Hygiene at the University of Manitoba or other dental hygiene programs.
Pre-Dentistry
Dentists treat the diseases and conditions that affect the mouth, jaws, teeth, and supporting tissues. In the Pre-Dentistry program at The University of Winnipeg, you will complete two years of study (60 credit hours) to fulfill the entrance requirements for dentistry at the University of Manitoba or other universities across Canada.
Pre-Engineering - Dual Degree Program
Pre-Engineering is a dual degree program with the University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering one of the top engineering schools in North America. Youll begin your studies in Pre-Engineering at The University of Winnipeg by studying biology, chemistry, geography, mathematics or physics. If you complete a three-year Bachelor of Science degree in any of those majors and have a minimum GPA of 2.5-2.8 (depending on the program), you are guaranteed a place in the University of Minnesotas engineering program. Your final two years will be spent in Minneapolis, where you will earn an ABET-accredited engineering degree.
Pre-Journalism
Are you interested in writing, current events, and the media? You may want to consider a professional career in journalism. To meet the entrance requirements at the University of Reginas School of Journalism, you will complete two years of study (60 credit hours) in Pre-Journalism, including specific courses, at The University of Winnipeg, including the pre-professional requirements.
Pre-Law
Students wishing to study law require at least two years of study (60 credit hours). The University of Winnipeg is an excellent place to complete your first two years of Pre-Law before applying to the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. No specific courses are required for admission to Law, so you have flexibility to choose which courses you want to take to get the best results.
Pre-Medical Rehabilitation: Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy (or physiotherapy) is a healthcare profession concerned with prevention, treatment and management of movement disorders arising from conditions and diseases. In Pre-Medical Rehabilitation: Physical Therapy, youll complete one year of study (30 credit hours) here to meet the entrance requirements for a Bachelor of Physical Therapy at the University of Manitoba.
Pre-Medical Rehabilitation: Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory Therapists assist physicians and treat respiratory disorders. Each respiratory therapy program has its own requirements. To meet the entrance requirements at the University of Manitoba, youll complete your first year of requirements (30 credit hours) here in Pre-Medical Rehabilitation: Respiratory Therapy.
Pre-Medical Technology
This pre-professional program prepares you to become a Medical Laboratory Technologist, Radiation Therapist, or Radiological (X-Ray) Technologist. To meet the entrance requirements for Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Radiological Technology at Red River College, you must complete your first year of preparatory study (30 credit hours) in Pre-Medical Technology at The University of Winnipeg.
Pre-Medicine
If you have the passion and determination to become a medical doctor, you can complete your first three years (90 credit hours) of pre-professional studies at The University of Winnipeg. Some specific courses are required; see Pre-Medicine for details. Upon completion, youll graduate with a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree and may apply to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba or at another Canadian institution.
Pre-Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists specialize in using productive or creative activity to treat or rehabilitate physically or emotionally disabled individuals. In Pre-Occupational Therapy, youll complete a three-year (90 credit hour) degree, including specific courses; this will allow you to apply for entry to Occupational Therapy at the University of Manitoba.
Pre-Optometry
Optometrists treat conditions of the human eye and visual system. After three years of study at The University of Winnipeg, youll be eligible to apply to Optometry at the University of Waterloo. As a student in Pre-Optometry here, youll complete a Bachelor of Science, including specific courses, in order to meet the entrance requirements in Optometry at the University of Waterloo.
Pre-Pharmacy
Pharmacy is a rewarding profession in the healthcare system that involves working closely with doctors and patients. As a student in Pre-Pharmacy here, youll complete specific courses during your first year of study (30 credit hours), in order to meet the entrance requirements for Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba.
Pre-Social Work
This pre-professional program prepares you with the knowledge and skills necessary for studies in professional social work. Youll complete your first year of study at The University of Winnipeg before applying to the Bachelor of Social Work program at the University of Manitoba. In our Pre-Social Work Program here, we offer the courses and supports youll need to get into Social Work and build a rewarding career.
Pre-Veterinary Medicine
Do you love working with animals? At The University of Winnipeg you can complete your first two years of study in Pre-Veterinary Medicine to fulfill admission requirements for the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
