Getting to Winnipeg
Located in the heart of Canada, Winnipeg, the largest city in the province of Manitoba, is a multicultural city home to people from around the world. By Car
The University of Winnipeg is conveniently located within the heart of downtown Winnipeg at 515 Portage Avenue. Nearby landmarks include the provincial legislature, the famous intersection of Portage and Main, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Hudson's Bay downtown store. If you are travelling from outside the city, Winnipeg is located on the Trans-Canada Highway. From the west, the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) leads directly to Winnipeg from Regina. Winnipeg is three hours and 20 minutes from the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border. From the east, Ontario Highway 17 becomes Highway 1 at the Manitoba border (at which time it becomes a four-lane divided highway). The journey from the Ontario border to Winnipeg is one hour and 30 minutes. From the south, take US Interstate 29, which then becomes provincial highway 75. Winnipeg is located one hour from the Canada/United States border and two hours from Grand Forks, ND.
By Bus
Greyhound Canada and Grey Goose (http://www.greyhound.ca/) provide service to downtown Winnipeg from across the continent; routes also extend throughout the province of Manitoba. The bus depot is located at the corner of Portage Avenue and Memorial Blvd., in the heart of the city and right next door to The University of Winnipeg.
Winnipeg Transit offers fast, efficient service within the city limits and has reduced student rates, making travel within Winnipeg accessible and affordable.
By Train
Via Rail offers The Canadian to Vancouver (via Edmonton and Jasper) or Toronto, which departs most days from Union Station. Union Station is located downtown at the corner of Main Street and Broadway, within a short bus or taxi ride to the University.
By Plane
Air travel is also easy with the Winnipeg International Airport, located just 15 minutes away from The University of Winnipeg. The Airport is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
