President and CEO's Message
Dear Alumni, Donors and Friends, Your gifts to The University of Winnipeg through its Foundation make an incredible difference in the lives of our students and in the ability of faculty and staff to deliver the levels of excellence in education for which our University is known. Without your help, so many of the things that make the UW experience an exceptional one would be lost.
Since joining the Foundation team in November 2011, I have come to learn of the tremendous commitment and passion that so many alumni and friends have for this great downtown University. As a University of Winnipeg alumnus, I continue to be amazed when I hear stories from people whose lives, like mine, have been transformed by their experience at The University of Winnipeg, and now want to give back. This is the most rewarding part of my job.
Now, as of August 2012, Ive assumed leadership over the Alumni offices. In filling this new role I look forward to meeting many more UW grads and hearing each of their individual stories. Every success of theirs gives pride to our school and is an inspiration to our students.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Universitys impact is felt around the world: through advanced research that creates new social and economic knowledge, graduates who become leaders in their professions and communities, and programs around the globe that serve the public good and change lives.
Your continuing gifts and pledges to The University of Winnipeg Foundation are an investment in the present and the future. Gifts of all sizes help create and maintain unique academic programming, support scholarships and bursaries, and assist the university in having state-of-the-art facilities, learning equipment and cutting edge technology.
Under the leadership of President Axworthy, The University of Winnipeg has continued to rise to a new level of excellence. We are extremely proud of our recent accomplishments and excited about our goals to develop even more dynamic learning and research opportunities.
Development efforts continue to focus on the completion of capital projects, growth of the University’s student awards program as well increased support for academic enhancements. The University of Winnipeg Foundation currently manages a $40 million Endowment Fund, supporting over 500 student scholarships and bursaries, and is committed to accountable and meaningful donor recognition and stewardship.
Your interest in the University of Winnipeg Foundation and your understanding of the importance of private support, whether it be through a planned gift, a gift to endowment or current funds, is greatly appreciated. As always, please free to contact me or The University of Winnipeg Foundation staff with your questions and comments.
