Meal Plan Guidelines

How the Meal Plan works

Meal Plans work on a "declining debit" system.  Meal Plan dollars can be spent at any of the 3 locations on campus - Pangaea's Kitchen in Riddell Hall; The Malecon in Centennial Hall; Cafè Bodhi in Lockhart Hall. You can add extra money to your account at any time. If you live in McFeetors Hall you must be on a Meal Plan, however, our Meal Plans are available to all U of W students.

Non-Transferable

Meal Plans are non-transferable and non-refundable. Each Meal Plan has certain discounts and tax exemptions on meals purchased. Our Meal Plans are simple to use and let our students eat what and when they want to. Full payment at the beginning of each term will be required; monthly terms may be negotiated. Any dollars left in the account at the end of each term will remain in the Food Services budget and will not be refunded to the student.

Students who have medical conditions that are certifiable by a physician, or religious beliefs that require dietary restrictions, should discuss their needs with the Manager of Food Operations who will make every attempt to accommodate these needs.

All Meal Plan participants will have a swipe card but cash, Visa, MasterCard and Debit Card is accepted at all three locations.

A note on GST & PST

Canadian tax laws allow for tax free benefits to students on the Meal Plan; however only the person who has purchased the Meal Plan is qualified to receive these benefits. At each transaction our cashiers will check to ensure that the student who is purchasing the meal matches with the photo on the Meal Plan card in order to ensure that the person making the purchase is indeed the Meal Plan participant. If the cashier suspects that somebody is not a Meal Plan participant (is not the same person as is on the presented Swipe Card) then the cashier will keep the card and report the incident to someone on the Diversity Management Team immediately.

Should a Meal Plan participant be identified as purchasing food for other students using their Meal Plan card, disciplinary actions will be taken. Fraudulent use of Meal Plan cards to purchase food for other people may result in loss of all discount and tax exemption privileges. The security of the card remains the Meal Plan participant responsibility and all lost or stolen cards must be reported immediately to someone on the Diversity Management Team. Replacement cards can be issued but the student will be charged a $25.00 administrative fee should this occur.
