Business and Administration - 4 Year BBA Economics and Finance

The field of finance has its roots in the discipline of economics.  The umbrella program draws on the strengths of the Economics and business Departments here at The University of Winnipeg, and provides a solid foundation in Economics and Finance.
Students have the option of pursuing a BA in Economics and Finance or a BBA in Economics in Finance.
This program will provide students with the conceptual tools to understand a number of issues from modern finance theory and applications.  The program will provide students with a solid understanding of the operation of capital markets and capital market instruments, including equities, fixed income securities, as well futures markets, options and other derivatives.  The program will provide students with an in-depth understanding of topics in modern finance and financial economics as it relates to the capital structure of firms and how these financial instruments affect the overall operation of modern financial systems.
General requirements for a 4-year BBA

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
  • Consultation with an Advisor from Business and Administration
  • Minimum 30 credit hours completed previously
GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
  • 120 credit hours
RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT
  • Degree: Minimum 60 credit hours
  • Major: Minimum 30 credit hours
GENERAL DEGREE REQUIREMENT
  • Humanities: 12 credit hours
  • Sciences: 6 credit hours
  • Social Sciences: 12 credit hours
  • Writing: Minimum 3 credit hours of Academic Writing
  • Maximum Introductory Courses: Students may use a maximum of 42 credit hours at the 1000 level
  • Of these, a maximum of 6 credit hours may be below the 1000 level
  • Distribution: Minimum three (3) credit hours from each of five (5) different subjects.
