Emergency Response Guidelines
Threats
A threat may be directed at an individual, an identified group or the University as a whole. The threat may infer physical violence or destruction of property.
Threat made in Person
- Make every attempt to appear calm in you motions and in
your voice.
- Attempt to alert others of your predicament
- If you are actually speaking with the individual advise
them that your main goal is to HELP them, not hinder them
- Attempt to distance yourself from the individual, if
possible.
- Contact Security Services
[204 786] 6666 (You may need to dial 8 or 9 first) as soon as possible.
- Attempt to describe the person in as much detail as you
can.
- If the person has left the area, IMMEDIATELY LOCK YOUR
DOOR, if possible
Threat made via Telephone
- Document exactly what was said.
- You can use the “Telephone Threat Procedures” form
- If you believe the caller is on campus, IMMEDIATELY LOCK
YOUR DOOR

Threat made by Electronic Means
- Do not destroy any records of the communication.
- If you believe the sender is on campus, IMMEDIATELY LOCK
YOUR DOOR

Threat made by other Means
- If you discover a threat made by other means (i.e. note
on a bathroom wall) immediately contact University Security Services [204 786] 6666 (You may need to dial 8 or 9 first)
