Emergency Response Guidelines

Suspicious, Worrisome or Criminal Behaviour

The University of Winnipeg expects and encourages students, faculty and staff to demonstrate a reasonable concern for their own welfare. Students, faculty or staff may observe an individual or group that has or may be displaying behaviour that is suspicious, worrisome or criminal in nature. This observation must immediately be brought to the attention of the University Security Services.

If you are the victim of or a witness to criminal behaviour take the following action:

a. From a safe location, call Security Services [204 786] 6666 or the Winnipeg Police Service 911.  You may need to dial 8 or 9 first. (Ensure to advise Security Services if you contact the Winnipeg Police Service);

b. If you are unable to contact Security Services or the Winnipeg Police Service, advise a faculty or staff member requesting that they contact Security Services or the Winnipeg Police Service;

c. If possible and safe to do so, wait for the arrival of Security Services or the Winnipeg Police Service;

d. Assist and cooperate with Security Services or the Winnipeg Police Service;

e. If safe to do so, assist the victim.

If you observe or are the victim of suspicious or worrisome behaviour, take the following action:

a. Proceed to a safe area where there is a large group of people;

b. Contact Security Services [204 786] 6666 (Remember you may need to dial 8 or 9 first) or advise a Faculty or Staff member;

c. If safe to do so, wait for the arrival of Security Services;

d. Assist and cooperate with Security Services.
