Emergency Response Guidelines

Basic Vehicle Emergency Kit

This kit should include:

• Shovel, windshield scraper and brush;
• Candle and matches or lighter (deep can) and a fire extinguishers;
• Battery-powered or wind-up radio (extra batteries);
• Battery-powered or wind-up flashlight (extra batteries);
• Water and food that won’t spoil (energy bars, snack food);
• Extra clothing and boots (mittens and toque) and blanket(s);
• Tow chain or rope, tire chains and booster cables;
• Bag of road salt, sand or cat litter;
• Fluorescent distress flag, emergency flares and a whistle;
• Road maps and list of contact numbers;
• First aid kit with a seat belt cutter; and cellular telephone or two-way radio, if available.
