Homestay

A Canadian Home Experience!

The host family program is for University of Winnipeg students. Students who choose this option are matched with an English-speaking host family for the duration of their studies. It is an opportunity to share in friendly discussion, learn about Canadian home life, and learn about different cultures.

The University of Winnipeg has had an active and successful Host Family Program for many years. Host families are screened carefully and selected by a University staff coordinator. You can expect a private room with a bed, sheets, blankets, towels, dresser, and a study area.

Are you Interested in Becoming a Host Family?

The most important criteria for a Host Family is a genuine desire to share their family life with an international student. We are now compiling a waiting list of families interested in being considered for our Host Family Program. Once your name is on the waiting list, you will be contacted to set up a home visit, as the need arises, for new host families.

The main role of the Host Family is to provide a safe, functional, and comfortable home environment within which the student feels at ease and is encouraged to use her or his English skills. The Host Family is required to speak English with the international student at all times. Host families are expected to provide a furnished room and meals for the student.
