Financial engineering has become one of the most important areas of human intellectual activity, for accuracy of financial models, their longevity and forecasting reliability governs not only profits inside high-frequency trading shops, but financial models upon which private and public long- and short-term decisions are made, which decisions affect allocation of resources, labor, investment, product r&d, pensions and environmental citizenship.  There is no existential proof that financial markets are short or long term model-able.  We examine whether 'man-made' universes, such as financial markets, yield themselves to statistical or mathematical modeling to begin with and what are the consequences on decision-makers at all levels whose decisions are highly sensitive to quality of financial modeling.

Arman Glodjo is a hedge-fund manager, an inventor with over 15 issued or pending patents in financial services, e-commerce and social networking and funds software start-ups of interest through his family investment vehicles.
