Dean Glenn Moulaison's message "Dear Arts Class of 2013: From one of your biggest supporters" looks at some practical questions (Does having an Arts degree mean "you’ll be living in your parents’ basement forever?") while it offers some optimism for grads concerning the value of their investment. Moving Forward, Giving Back
: A new book edited by Dr. Jim Silver

Moving Forward, Giving Back looks at the positive effects innovative educational initiatives can have on the lives of Aboriginal people who want to further their education as adults. All too often their efforts are confounded by ongoing challenges that are due to the long term consequences of colonialism and racialized poverty. These programs are shown to have the power to be successful and to have transformative effects on the lives of these men and women, their families and the community.

Dr. Silver, book editor, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Urban and Inner-City Studies. His research and publishing are focused on inner-city, poverty-related and community development issues. He is a past recipient of UWinnipeg’s Robson Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Atchison Award for Community Service, the Joe Zuken Citizen Activist Award, and was the 2007 recipient of the Erica and Arnold Rogers Award for Excellence in Research.
