Peacekeeping, mediation, foreign aid, fighting small wars, the G8 and G20, the United Nations and NATO – all these are part and parcel of Canada’s foreign policy. Since WWII, Canada has had some glorious, and less than glorious, moments on the world stage. The success of our foreign policy depends on prime ministerial leadership, and this course seeks to evaluate the record of Canadian PMs. It takes skill, knowledge and imagination to develop a good foreign policy, and Canadian prime ministers have had varying degrees of success in this crucial field. This short course will evaluate the successes and failures on the world stage of all the prime ministers since Mackenzie King (1948) and might also peek into their personal lives.
