UNIVERSITY OF WINNIPEG FACULTY AND STAFF CLUB
      AND
MEMBERS OF THE 55 PLUS PROGRAMME

In June 2010 the Board of the University of Winnipeg Faculty and Staff Club unanimously approved a motion to extend eligibility for Associate Membership in the Club to members of Continuing Education’s 55 Plus Programme. The ideas behind the motion were several. First and foremost, membership would provide an attractive and quiet venue for Senior students to have coffee or lunch before or after their classes. Second, it also entitles one to book the Club facilities – rent-free – for after-hours, private functions. Third, any extension of Club membership is likely to mean increased usage of the facilities and thus strengthen the Club’s operational ability. Fourth, use of a common facility by faculty, staff, and members of this unique body of ‘students’ – for under-graduates are not eligible for membership – can only enhance the sense of a campus community that is so important to us all.

The Club is located on the 4th floor of the newly restored Wesley Hall. Refurbished in 2008, it offers comfortable, quiet surroundings for dining, private receptions, or business meetings. The Dining Room accommodates 40 people; the Lounge area is furnished in leather sofas and chairs; the attractively appointed Board Room is ideal for small meetings; Club walls are graced by original Art from collections owned by the University and by the Club; and the “Tongue N Cheek” English Pub is a favourite of members and their guests.

In September 2010 the Club will reopen under new management. The Caterer is a baker by trade and expects to feature fresh, in-house baked goods on her menu, including breads, quiches and crepes. She will also offer made-from-scratch soups, sandwiches and salads, a selection of special coffees, and some new wine and beer products.

The Club sponsors a variety of events throughout the academic year, including a series of  parties. Of greater interest, perhaps, to members of the 55 Plus Programme will be our Speakers Series – informal talks on Friday afternoons – our events to showcase the University’s theatre and athletic programmes, the artistic prowess of certain members of our Faculty and Staff, and the works of campus authors.

All of this is open to Associate Members for an annual fee of $40.00, compared to the $150.00 and $75.00 fees paid by Faculty and Staff respectively. The sole restriction is that Associates have no voting rights. Further information, including an Application Form, is available from Ms Pamela Delorme (786-9435) or p.delorme@uwinnipeg.ca , or from the Club website at: www.uwinnipegclub.info

Our Seniors should know that the Club sincerely welcomes your membership, and sees itself as playing a very positive role in your on-campus experience. Its Board of Directors is hopeful that the Club will figure in your future.
