Advanced Diploma in Leadership in Early Childhood Care and Education Program
The Advanced Diploma in Leadership in Early Childhood Care and Education is a leadership development program that is designed for professionals within the early childhood care and education sector. It is a unique combination of courses from the Professional Studies Program Area and the Developmental Studies Degree Program. This diploma program has been approved by the Government's Child Care Education Program Approval Committee (CCEPAC) as a route towards achievement of ECE lll classification by Government (when combined with a current ECE ll).

THIS PROGRAM IS FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN:
- Building administrative skills and abilities for a leadership position
- Enhancing their current knowledge and skills
- Exercising leadership skills within the early childhood care and education system
- Securing essential workplace knowledge and communication skills to complement an academic degree. Developing the ability to manage and assess the needs of a changing and diverse work force
UPON COMPLETION OF THIS PROGRAM, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
- Demonstrate effectiveness in interpersonal and team communication skills
- Demonstrate skills in written communications by writing clear and concise messages using plain English
- Describe the major principles of business management and their interrelationships
- Employ principles of effective oral communications and effectively facilitate meetings and groups
- Explain key concepts of organizational behaviour and the behaviour of individuals and groups in organizations
- Identify major Canadian and Manitoban social policies as they relate to children and families
- Ability to analyze trends in the childhood sector
- Utilize effective problem solving techniques
Advanced Diploma in Leadership in Early Childhood and Education Program Requirements
The program consists of three components: the Core courses, the Elective courses, and the Professional Edge Seminars. Students may take courses in any order as long as they have the required prerequisite, and they have up to five years to complete the 362 hours of study. Students may condense the length of their studies by taking more than one course per term to graduate in a shorter period.
To Graduate You Must:
1. Complete the Core Courses (255 hours)
- Learning Techniques Seminar (3 hours)
and:
- Effective Oral Communication (36 hours)
- Effective Written Communication (36 hours)
- Principles of Human Resource Management (36 hours)
- Financial Management for Non-Financial Managers (36 hours)
- The Child, Family, and Social Policy *(36 hour equivalent)
- Topics in Leadership in ECE *(36 hour equivalent)
- Advanced Internship
in Child Care Administration *(36 hour equivalent)
*These are degree-credit courses offered at The University of Winnipeg main campus. Students are encouraged to take them in the latter part of the program.
2. Complete two courses from the following list (72 hours)
- Managing Conflict (36 hours)
- Leadership Development (36 hours)
- Business Fundamentals (36 hours)
- Labour-Management Relations (36 hours)
- Organizational Behaviour (36 hours)
- Essential Skills for Managers (36 hours)
3. Complete five Professional Edge Seminars (35 hours)
Complete five one-day (7 hours) seminars or a combination of one- and two-day (14 hours) seminars for a total of 35 hours.*
*Please note that the University Writing and Research seminar is required for students who do not have an undergraduate degree.
Articulation for Credit
Graduates of the Advanced Diploma in Leadership in Early Childhood Care and Education Program may be eligible for equivalent course credits towards an undergraduate degree at The University of Winnipeg.

Funding Opportunity for Students
The Regulated Annual Training Grant ($350) is available through the Province of Manitoba.
The student must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the Regulated Annual Training Grant:- Employed at a licensed child care centre
- Classified as an ECE ll and eligible to receive an ECE lll upon completion of the ADLECCE Program
*Childcare Centre Directors must apply for this grant on behalf of the employee.
