The University of Winnipeg, Division of Continuing Education Information Technology Program area is proud to offer courses and seminars that have a focus of providing Information Technology professionals the opportunity to upgrade skills or prepare for various industry recognized certifications in a short, intensive manner.
Serious Games Camp
15+ years of age

Serious Games Camp is a 2 week program in which student’s experience the game design and development process as practiced in the games industry today. They will learn game design skills using sophisticated software then join a development team to build a playable video game level that the team presents at the end of the camp. Students will work with professional game developers and be exposed to real world development projects.
Classes are held Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The program offers a mixture of theoretical and practical learning each day. All classes will be held at the UW Campus, 515 Portage Ave.

- Special Events include LAN gaming tournaments
- One Scholarship will be awarded towards the Serious Games Certificate

- Game technology : the big picture
- The process of serious game development
- Terrain- your first level
- Working with volumes
- Creating materials with Photoshop
- Interactive elements
- Creating particle effects
- Characters/ and Artificial Intelligence
- Overview of Maya / Static meshes
- The art of texturing in Maya
- Triggers for Gameplay
- Rolling up your game Level
Tools used will include:
- Flash
- Photoshop
- Maya
- The Unreal Engine
With the help of experienced teachers and aids, students will walk away with skills and knowledge that will help them in their future careers!
