Who are we?

Since 1972, the Division of Continuing Education has been known as a dynamic learning centre and an integral part of The University of Winnipeg. With over 300 programs and courses to choose from and 5,000 students annually, DCE is the perfect place to be.  Because of our size, we are able to provide individual attention to help you plan your educational goals.  Come for a tour, meet our staff, and become part of the downtown education community.  Most courses and programs are becoming so popular we recommend you register as early as possible.

Where are we?

The Division of Continuing Education at The University of Winnipeg is conveniently located in downtown Winnipeg, at 460 Portage Ave . We're close to many major businesses and shopping centres, and within walking distance to The University of Winnipeg's main campus.

Are there Admission requirements for Certificate or Diploma Programs?

Yes. To qualify for admission, you must meet one of the following requirements:


1. Graduation from a Canadian High School (or Manitoba Senior 4 (grade 12) equivalent including G.E.D.) or
2. Be 19 years of age or older and have completed at least one of the following:
   a. two years of related work experience verified by the employer
   b. two 300 or 40S level high school courses within the last three years
   c. 90 hours of course work at a post-secondary institution (including Division of Continuing Education courses at the University of Winnipeg)

Are there Prerequisites?

Yes, there are prerequisites for some courses. For more detailed information on requirements for a specific course, please refer to our Brochures.

If I have completed a course at another educational institution, can it be transferred for credit?

You may be eligible to receive transfer credit for course work completed at another educational institution within the last five years. A $35.00 CDN fee applies to each transferred course. Some restrictions do apply. Transfer Request Form (pdf).

What is your Refund Policy?

For Courses:
Withdrawal up to one week prior to the start of the course will ensure a full refund of your tuition fees. Before the start of the second class, we will be able to reimburse your tuition fees less a 25% administrative fee. After the second class, no refunds will be granted.

For Seminars/Workshops:
Your full tuition fee will be reimbursed up to one week prior to the start of the seminar. No refunds will be granted after this point.

What is the deadline for registration?

If minimum enrolment has been met, you can register up to the course start date - depending on space availability. Many of our courses fill up quickly, so we recommend that you register as early as possible.

What happens if a DCE course is cancelled?

The decision to proceed with a course is made one week prior to the course start date. If a course is cancelled, you will be contacted by phone. You can apply your tuition to another course or have it refunded.

What if my company is paying my tuition?

No problem--we can invoice your company. We'll need to receive a letter of authorization on company letterhead, including the name of the student registering, a complete mailing address, and the course name and number.

Do I pay when I register?

Tuition fees must be paid at the time of registration.
