The CTLT is responsible for the administration of the UW faculty course evaluations.

UPDATE

New Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET)

We are in the middle of a transition to a new course evaluation format as approved by the University Senate.

The old FaCE system entailed two forms: (a) Bubble sheet - Qualities of University Instruction Questionnaire and (b) Comments sheet.

The new SET will consist of: (a) Optional Formative SET (b) Mandatory Summative SET with (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory and space for student comments). The Summative SET is expected to be ready closer to the usual Course Evaluation period (evaluation period at the end of the term for condensed and regular courses). We are working with TSC in the designing and development of the scan sheets and the necessary automation plug-in modules to populate the database.

CURRENT TERM: September-December 2010

This term will be the transition period and CTLT can continue to provide the old comments sheets ONLY. The data bubble sheets (as the old bubble sheets) will not be administered or processed for sessions starting September 2010.

PAST TERMS: 2009-2010

An update was posted to the faculty listserv and disseminated to the department chairs and the area deans on August 19, 2010.
 
Status of FaCE (Faculty Course Evaluation) as of August 19, 2010:

Fall 2009: Delayed. Scanning complete. Data analyses in progress. Comment sheets will be distributed first week of September (without the data analyses).

Fall/Winter/Winter 2009-10: Scanning to be done and processing to be complete. As per schedule.

Spring 2010: To be scanned and processed. As per schedule.

Written comment sheets for ALL past terms will be distributed within the first two weeks of September 2010. This would allow faculty members to include them in their portfolio or applications for academic purposes.

The current processing of the system being phased out entails production of list and labels based on enrollments/course instructor/student numbers/course information - possible only after the official Course Withdrawal deadline. This is followed by creation of packages and labels to distribute the bubble and comments sheets to each instructor. Thereafter, sorting (comments from bubble sheets) before scanning. Scanning priority is examinations first; evaluations later. Last stage involves data analyses and reporting followed by distribution of material to respective instructors.

Please remember that there is an overlap between subsequent terms as this process involving various departments keeps recurring every term including Spring and (sometimes) Summer.
