Community Renewal Corporation
The University of Winnipeg Community
Renewal Corporation (UWCRC) was incorporated on April 6, 2005 as a controlled
entity of the University of Winnipeg. The UWCRC's mandate is to support the
University by developing a sustainable University community that promotes the
attractiveness of the University to its faculty, staff, students, and the
greater community.
The UWCRC is responsible for the development of the Universitys Comprehensive Campus and Community Plan, and has served as the development arm of the University. The UWCRC actively develops partnerships with community, private and public sector organizations.
Campus Development
To date, the UWCRC has been directly involved with projects such as the expansion of the Duckworth Centre, as well as new development projects such as The Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, the McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence, the Furby/Langside Day Care Centre, the Furby/Langside parking project, the Loop Road, the Green Corridor, United Army site, and 491 Portage, which the UWCRC holds a minority ownership interest in.
As well, the UWCRC oversees The University of Winnipeg Student Housing portfolio, which includes scattered site units in 8 houses on Spence and Balmoral Street, and approximately 150 spaces in the Lions Manor South Tower. The UWCRC will also manage the new McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence, which will add an additional 176 dorm style spaces and 25 apartments to our housing stock. This new residence space is geared to serve both the University and community at large, and will open September 2009.
As of January 2009, the UWCRC also oversees The University of Winnipeg Food Services portfolio, which includes all vending and food service contracts and associated providers.
