Construction Update April 2013

UNITED Health & RecPlex - updated April 2013

The University of Winnipeg is currently constructing the inner-city’s most significant recreation and wellness hub, a $40 million facility called the UNITED Health and RecPlex, located on Spence Street between Ellice and Portage Avenues. UWinnipeg is working collaboratively with a broad range of groups including coalition of 19 community and youth serving agencies, the City of Winnipeg and the Winnipeg School Division to create a Community Charter - a binding agreement ensuring regular access to sports and recreation programs for inner-city youth and residents.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE

· From February 16 to mid-March 2013, piles were installed to support the new Recreation Complex

· From mid-March to mid-May, concrete is being poured to create the new foundation

· From mid-May to mid-August, construction work will continue to build the pre-engineering building shell of the new complex

· Renovations inside the existing Duckworth Centre on Spence Street will begin in late spring 2013 and is expected to be completed by 2014. The renovated Duckworth Centre will include new health services for the campus and surrounding community

· By September 2014 we expect the new UNITED Health & RecPlex building will be completed and community sporting and recreation events inside the complex will begin
