Sokhon Prak
Chief of Planning/Socio-economic
Prak Sokhon is the Chief of Planning/Socio-economic of Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), a large national mine action institution within Cambodia, after moving from many positions (Head of Contracts and Procurement, Chief of Personnel and Administration, Chief of Logistics, Senior Investigation Officer). Mr. Sokhon worked for this national institution since 1993 after 2 years of working with United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) as Senor Administration Clerk in Procurement Office, and 11 years with Oil-Materials & Equipments Company (under Ministry of Commerce) as Warehouse Manager, Secretary to the Director General, Chief of Transportation, Shop Manager).
Born in 1955 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Mr. Sokhon has 6 brothers and 3 sisters. He is the second son of his big family. His father was policeman and his mother was a housewife. In 1975, he was a student of Faculty of Commerce in Phnom Penh. From 1975-1979, Khmer Rouge forced him and his family to live in miserable life in the north province of Cambodia where he lost his father and his elder brother. Sokhon married in 1978 during Khmer Rouge time (66 couples/time), he has 5 sons and 2 daughters. During working with Oil-Materials & Equipments Co., he continued his study in Phnom Penh and got Certificate of Bachelor of Commerce in 1989 from Economics Institute.
Presently, serving CMAC, Sokhon coordinates with all CMAC Demining Units and Provincial Mine Action Committees (PMAC) for preparation the yearly national demining work plan, briefs the Military Polices during their refresher courses about landmine situation in Cambodia and CMAC mission. With his another task as Adopt-A- Minefield Project Manager, he prepares and writes Adopt-A-Minefield Pre clearance stories for funds raising. Also, he has served UNA-USA’s Adopt-A-Minefield as AAM Local Representative for Cambodia since 2004. Regarding to this part time job, he coordinates the field visits and meetings between AAM delegations from USA, UK, Sweden, Canada and CMAC, Landmine Survivor Assistance Organizations.
Mr. Sokhon used to write many stories for Adopt-A-Minefield web sites to inform people worldwide about Pre and Post clearance situations in Cambodia.
