Chris Cobb is a senior feature writer and reporter at the Ottawa Citizen. He recently received the 2007 Michener Deacon Fellowship*. Cobb will use the fellowship to research and write about the 1997 Mine Ban treaty.

Cobb visited Mozambique in the summer of 2006. Mozambique lost 23 people to landmines and 34 more were injured in 2006. During this time he observed a landmine clearing project which he wrote about in an article published in the Citizen last November.

Cobb is a member of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery, president of the Canadian branch of the Commonwealth Journalists Association and specializes in writing on politics, political communication and privacy/security issues related to post-911 legislation. He has taught journalism at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada's largest journalism school, and has led training seminars for the CJA in Nigeria and Guyana.

*The Michener-Deacon fellowship is awarded annually to a deserving recipient and helps to advance education in the field of journalism and serves the public interest through the promotion of values that benefit the community.
