Landmines Youth Symposium
Objectives
- Young women and men who were the original Youth Mine Action Ambassadors will come to Winnipeg to ‘hand-off’ the job of land mine elimination to a new generation of concerned university and high school students.
- High profile landmine activists and government leaders will talk of their involvement in the process that led to this historic treaty. As well we will discuss how this method has become a model for negotiating other international agreements like the International Criminal Court and The Convention on the Rights of the Child.
- Landmine survivors will share their stories. Landmine educators will speak about the ongoing struggle to eliminate and remove landmines and of the continuing and growing scourge of landmines in the brutalized places of the world.
- Youth Forum participants will develop a set of recommendations which will be conveyed to Parliamentarians and which will be presented by representative spokespersons at the Waterloo Landmine.
