College Wesmen Basketball Teams Win Bronze

Saturday, March 3, 2012 -  The Wesmen College Basketball teams both won bronze medals Saturday afternoon at the MCAC Basketball Final Four Championships taking place at Red River College.

Ettawacappo Joins College Wesmen MBB Team


Thursday, March 30, 2011 - The University of Winnipeg College Wesmen Men’s Head Coach Grant Richter is pleased to announce that Brad Ettawacappo has committed to the University of Winnipeg for next season.

Ettawacappo is a 6’6 forward / post from Norway House Cree Nation who graduated from Helen Betty Osborne High School in 2007 and attended and played at Lakeland College the following year. He averaged 26 pts 16 rebounds and 7 blocks his senior year in high school.

“We are very pleased that Brad will be joining us at The University of Winnipeg for the 2011/12 season. Brad will complement our current roster perfectly with his physical style of play and tenacious rebounding”, added College Wesmen head coach Grant Richter.



Gold and Silver at MCAC Final Four






 
Saturday, March 13, 2011 - The College Wesmen Men's and Women's Basketball Teams each picked up medals at the MCAC Final Four Basketball Championships at Providence College in Otterburne, Manitoba.

The top ranked women's team beat Red River College 57-55 in overtime in the championship game Sunday afternoon. Shawna Solarchuk was named the Wesmen Player of the Game and Julia Anning was selected as the Final Four MVP. Julia Anning and Keiko Kobayakawa were selected to the MCAC Women's Basketball All-Conference Team,











On the men's side, the number one seed Wesmen loss a close 89-78 decision to the Red River College Rebels in Sunday afternoons championship final. Lexy Blacksmith was chosen as the Wesmen Player of the Game. Jon Picicci, Given Isaac and Lexy Blacksmith were selected to the MCAC Men's Basketball All-Conference Team.

College Wesmen Basketball Off To Final Four

Monday, March 7, 2011 - The College Wesmen Men's and Women's Basketball Teams will be participating in the MCAC Final Four Basketball Championships at Providence College in Otterburne, Manitoba.

The Men's Team led by Head Coach Grant Richter finished the regular season with an impressive regular season record of 13-1 and a first place finish in the MCAC Men's Basketball standings.

The number one seed Wesmen will take on Oak Hills Community College in the semi finals on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

The Women's Team coached by Suki Chhoeun, head into the Final Four as the number one seed after completing the regular season with a record of 13-2 and first place in the MCAC Women's Basketball standings. 

The Wesmen will play Providence College in the semi finals on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.

Given Isaac Named  MCAC Male Athlete Of The Week

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 - The University of Winnipeg College Wesmen and the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Association are pleased to announce that Given Isaac has been selected as the MCAC Male Athlete of the Week for Week number 17.

Isaac, a 6'0 guard came off the bench to score 20 points and lead the Wesmen to an 85-64 victory over the Red River Rebels. Issac was clutch from the free-throw line sinking eight-of-nine free throws.

" I am extremely pleased with the selection of Given Isaac as the MCAC Male Athlete of the Week. Given's on court performances is a reflection of his passion and dedication to the sport and it is very rewarding to watch him grow as a person and an athlete", said College Wesmen head coach Grant Richter.

The College Wesmen recently completed their MCAC regular season schedule with an impressive 13-1 record. The team will head to the MCAC Final Four as the number one seed. 

The 2011 MCAC Final Four Basketball Championships will be hosted by Providence College March 11 and 12 in Otterburne, Manitoba.
