Volunteer Opportunities

The Alumni Association has volunteer opportunities to suit a wide range of interests and time commitments. By getting involved—a little or a lot—you can make a difference to your University and current students.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Homecoming 2013 - If you would like to participate as a volunteer at Homecoming 2013 please contact the Alumni Office at alumni@uwinnipeg.ca or call 204.988.7118.

Alumni Council - This 12-member Council represents the Alumni Association and meets monthly to make decisions on policy and programming for the association. Each member serves a three-year term. In addition, three alumni representatives are chosen to serve on the Board of Regents and provide a liaison between the University's governing body and alumni.

Alumni Council Committees - Your ideas are needed, so consider joining one of the Council's planning committees:

• Communications Committee
• Events & Outreach Committee
• Volunteers Committee

Career Mentor - Share your experience and insight about your chosen career. Contact alumni@uwinnipeg.ca to sign up as a mentor.

Convocation - Welcome our newest members to the Alumni Association and help raise money for scholarships by selling degree frames before or after the ceremonies. Convocations are held in June and October.

Food for Thought - Join other alumni volunteers in distributing snacks and juice, along with encouragement, to students who are studying for exams on campus. This event is held twice a year during the exam period (December and April).

Scholarship Presenters - In June, visit a high school to present University of Winnipeg entrance scholarships to outstanding graduates.

Selection Committees - Pick a winner! Alumni representatives are needed to serve on each of these three award selection committees:

• Alumni Entrance Scholarship Committee
• Hanen and Atchison Awards for Community Service Committee
• Robson Excellence in Teaching Award Committee

These selection committees normally meet only once or twice to make their decisions; committee members review nominations prior to meetings.
