Mentoring Night Program

Mentoring Night

Thursday, March 21, 2013
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Power Corporation Atrium
Richardson College for Environment and Science Complex

The goal of this event is to promote connections between alumni and students.  The Alumni Association is interested in helping current students and, as working professionals from a wide variety of fields, could potentially offer good advice to students regarding career choices, landing jobs and networking.

Program:

5:00 - Registration

  • Upon registration, all mentors and students will be given name tags a list of suggested topics and questions.  These are only suggested topics, but may help the flow of communication between mentors and students.

5:15 -  Welcome and introductions – UWSA and Alumni Association

5:30 – 6:30 - One hour speed mentoring session

  • Mentors and students will have 5 to 8 minutes with each other – the mentor may wish to talk about himself / herself and their career path since graduating from UW.  It is suggested that students use the questions provided, but should feel free to ask their own as it relates to their area of interest.
  • A bell will sound indicating it is time for the student to move on to the next mentor.
  • This format is followed for a full hour.
  • Using this format, students will be able to meet with approximately ten different mentors during the hour.

6:30 – 7:00 - Connecting mentors and students

  • Half an hour of wine and cheese and mingling
  • This will allow students to seek out and speak with mentors they found most interesting
  • Students and mentors that have a great connection may choose to make arrangements to get together at a later time.
