Mentoring FAQs
What is the Alumni Association / UWSA Speed-Mentoring event?
The Alumni Association / UWSA Speed-Mentoring event is a unique way for University of Winnipeg alumni to share their knowledge and experience with current University of Winnipeg students and recent graduates. During the evening, volunteer mentors will meet with students for a brief period of time to discuss their own career paths, their professional field, and related topics.
As a volunteer mentor, what can I expect?
The format will be speed-mentoring. You can expect to meet with a small group of students and/or individual students. You will give a brief presentation (approximately 5 minutes) about your career path, and then answer students questions for approximately 3 minutes. After the question and answer session, a bell will ring, signalling its time for the students to meet with another mentor, and you will get a new group of students. This way, students will have an opportunity to hear from several mentors. The evening will end with a casual reception where mentors can continue to informally meet with students.
When and where will the event take place?
The event will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Power Corporation Atrium in the Richardson College for Environment and Science Complex. Please plan to arrive about 30 minutes early in order to check in with the organizers and find your table. (Name badges with your name, job title and field will be supplied.)
How long is the event?
The volunteer commitment is approximately 2 hours long.
