Adult Learner Services
Getting Started
The University of Winnipeg has many different categories of Admission and your academic background will determine which category is right for you.
For adult learners, the two most common types of admission are Regular Status Admission and Mature Status Admission. Regular status means that you have completed regular high school requirements (even if high school was a few years ago!) or by obtaining a Mature Student High School Diploma. Mature Status offers a variety of alternatives. In addition, Mature Access Admission is designed for students who may not meet either the Regular or Mature Status Admission. More detailed admissions information can be found at How to Apply.
Regular Status Admission
You have the qualifications for admission as a regular student based on your Grade 12 courses, grades and proof of graduation. Those applicants who wish to transfer from another college or university are also considered under this type of admission.
Mature Status Admission
You are at least 21 years of age and you do not meet Regular Status admission requirements. You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and you meet at least one of the following conditions:
- graduation from High School but without the specific subject requirements for Regular Admission
- standing in minimum three approved 40S courses, or their equivalent, obtained within the last three years but without High School graduation
- qualification for Junior Matriculation standing (prior to 1964)
- completion of the equivalent of one semester of work at another post-secondary institution (e.g. technical college, bible college, bible school), and a minimum 2.0 GPA (C)
- completion of a continuing education certificate or diploma program consisting of at least one semester of studies (at least three full course credits)
- minimum grade of C on every course attempted on Mature Status at another university
- completion of the GED (General Education Development) test, for information contact the Department of Advanced Education & Literacy, Adult Learning and Literacy, GED Testing Services: website - www.gov.mb.ca/all, phone - 1.800.853.7402, fax -204.726.6339, mail - GED Testing Services, 362-340 9th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 6C2
