Acts of Pilate Workshop

Workshop Objectives

The overall goal of the workshop is to interrogate and advance the process of editing the various linguistic versions of the Acts of Pilate. The workshop will be interdisciplinary: it will bring together members of the Acta Pilati Editorial Team (working under the auspices of the Association pour l’Étude de la Littérature Apocryphe Chrétienne [AELAC]), Biblical scholars, medievalists specializing in vernacular languages, textual scholars, and a cultural studies theorist.

The specific objectives of the workshop include: (a) to exchange and examine the latest assumptions and hypotheses about the different translations of the apocryphon and about its cultural, theological, and inter-textual affiliations; (b) to conduct a collaborative comparison / analysis of variant readings, simultaneously in all relevant linguistic versions of the Acts of Pilate, chap. 2-9; (c) to investigate the possibilities for further improvement and acceleration of the editorial process.
