What is a Study Permit?
A study permit is the official paper that allows you to study in Canada. All international students planning to study in Canada for more than six months must possess a valid study permit.
How do I get a Study Permit?
Contact the nearest Canadian diplomatic mission (High Commission, Consulate, or Embassy). The diplomatic mission will tell you what is required to obtain a study permit. A complete listing of Canadian diplomatic missions can be found on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.
Note: If you are from the U.S.A., Greenland, or St. Pierre and Miquelon, you can apply at a Canadian port of entry.
More information can be found on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website.
Temporary Residence Visa
In addition to the Study Permit, students from some countries need a Temporary Residence Visa (entry visa) to enter Canada. Ask the diplomatic mission if you require one, and what steps are required to obtain one.
