What should I pack?

Whether you are coming to the University of Winnipeg for a semester, a year, or if you are planning to move to Canada permanently, it can be difficult to decide what to pack. You should think about your own personal needs and decide what you need from home.

Don’t forget these essentials:

  • Your passport and documents required by immigration (see Travel Document Checklist). It is a good idea to make photocopies of all important documents. Leave one copy at home with your family and keep the other copy with you, separate from the originals.

  • Medications and prescriptions (always in their original containers)

  • Pictures of your family and friends at home

  • Sheets, pillows, blankets and towels for your first night in residence. For more information about what you will need for specific residences, please check out the Housing website: http://uwincampuslife.wordpress.com/prospective-residents/faq/to-bring-or-not/

You will also need warm winter clothes if you will be here from November to March. Winnipeg winters are cold, so appropriate clothing is essential. But don’t worry if you don’t have a winter coat or mittens yet, you can always buy them here!

Canadian appliances operate at 110 volts and 60 Hz and use a three-pin or two-pin plug. If you are bringing appliances from home, be sure to check the voltage and purchase an adaptor/converter if necessary.
