About Winnipeg
Winnipeg is a medium-sized city (population 700,000) located in the centre of Canada. The city is surrounded by prairie landscape with wide areas of flat land. By air, Winnipeg is about two hours away from Toronto and Calgary and three hours from Vancouver. It’s a one-hour drive to the United States border.
There are plenty of interesting places to visit and things to do in Winnipeg:
- enjoy the historical architecture and unique shops of the Exchange District and The Forks
- relax in the natural environment and green space of Assiniboine Park
- attend many arts events – ballet, theatre, art galleries and museums
- cheer on your team at professional sports events.
Winnipeg is very multi-cultural. If you’re looking for familiar foods from home, you will probably be able to find them at one of the many international food stores or restaurants here. Every year in the summer we celebrate our multi-culturalism during a very popular festival called “Folklorama.”
Winnipeg has four distinct seasons, and a wide range of temperatures from -35 degrees Celsius in winter to +35 degrees Celsius in summer. You’ll need clothing for all types of weather!
Spring, summer, and fall are often quite nice. World-famous beaches, beautiful forests, cottages and campgrounds are located less than an hour away from the city.
Winter provides Winnipeggers with the chance to skate on the river, participate in winter festivals, and enjoy the crisp, clean air.
