RICHARD WIEBE NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL CANADIAN

Thursday, March 1, 2007 – The University of  Winnipeg and the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) would like to announce that men’s volleyball star Richard Wiebe has been named to the CIS Men’s Volleyball First All-Canadian Team at the CIS Men’s Volleyball Championship breakfast held this morning in Hamilton, Ontario.

Wiebe, a 6’4” outside hitter was named to the Canada West First All-Star Team last week, had a solid regular season in helping the Wesmen to a 14-4 regular season record, and second place in the Canada West Conference standings. He finished the regular season with 209 kills, 94 defensive digs and 15 service aces. Wiebe led the Wesmen in total kills in eight regular season matches during the 2006-07 season.  He was named University of Winnipeg Male Athlete of the Week two times this past regular season (October 30, 2006 and January 29, 2007). He was also named a Tournament All-Star at the University of Manitoba Invitational Tournament (October 19-21, 2007)

Wiebe joined the Wesmen before the 2005-06 season after being inactive for two seasons and made a huge impact finishing second on the team in kills with 147.
