The Winnipeg Wesmen dominated from start to finish in a 75-56 victory over the Brandon Bobcats Thursday night at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen came out on fire building a quick 10-1 lead and never looking back. The team had complete control which enabled Wesmen Head Coach Tanya McKay to go to her bench early in the first half. The Wesmen led at halftime 43-26. Uzo Asagwara, who scored a game high 23 points had 17 points in the first half. In the second half it was more of the same as the Wesmen went to their bench to complete the game and earn the victory. Suzanne Campbell led the Bobcats with 18 points. The Wesmen outplayed Brandon on defence finishing with seven blocks and 12 steals. Brandon had zero blocks and only three steals. The victory improves the Wesmen's record to 12-5 which places them in first place in the Great Plains Division of the Canada West Conference. The Bobcats remain winless at 0-17. The second game of the home and home series will shift to Brandon on Saturday night.

The Winnipeg Wesmen started strong but faded down the stretch as the visiting Brandon Bobcats left the Duckworth Centre with a 83-71 victory over the Wesmen. The game got off to a horrid, fast pace as both teams were tied at 10-10 less than five minutes into the game. The Bobcats settled into a defensive shell and went on a 11-3 run to move ahead 21-13 midway thru the first half. The Wesmen would not quit and with four and half minutes to play in the half the Wesmen took the lead for the first time in the game at 26-25. The Bobcats recovered and were leading 37-34 at halftime. In the second half Winnipeg fell into foul trouble when Erfan Nasajpour picked up his fourth personal foul only six minutes into the second half. The Wesmen were able to stay close with Nasajpour on the bench and held a 58-57 lead at the 11:00 mark of the second half. The Wesmen struggled in the last four minutes, missing shots, turning the ball over as the Bobcats outscored the Wesmen 21-7 in that time. Dan Shynkaryk led the Wesmen with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Matt Opalko had 18 points and 10 assists. Yul Michel and Stevens Marcelin eached scored 19 points to lead the Bobcats. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 6-11, while the Bobcats improve to 9-8. The two teams will battle once again Saturday night in Brandon.

Alberta def WESMEN 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22)

The women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22) decision to the Alberta Pandas Friday night in Edmonton. Kristin Brisebois led the Wesmen with 16 kills. Kaitlyn Jackson had an all-around solid match finishing with 11 kills and 17 digs. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 10-7 while the Pandas improve to 13-4. The two teams will face each other Saturday night in Edmonton.

The women’s team had no problem in a 83-47 thrashing of the Brandon Bobcats, Saturday evening in Brandon. The outcome of this game was decided very early as the Wesmen build a 28-8 lead at the halfway point of the first half. The big lead allowed Wesmen Head Coach Tanya McKay to go to her bench early and often. The Wesmen had a comfortable 45-24 lead at halftime. In the second half the Wesmen train rolled on with the starting unit playing very few minutes and the bench players taking advantage of ample playing time. The Wesmen were 9-of-18 from three point territory, with first year guard Randie Gibson leading the way with four-three pointers in the game. Four Wesmen players scored in double digits with Canada West scoring leader Uzo Asagwara leading the way with a game high 23 points. The victory improves the teams record to 13-5, while the Lady Bobcats fall to 0-18. The victory along with Regina’s loss to Manitoba gives the Wesmen first place and a first round bye in the Gret Plains Division of the Canada West Conference. The team will travel across town on Thursday to face the Manitoba Bisons. Game time is 6:15 p.m.

In a wild affair in Brandon Saturday evening, the Wesmen dropped a tough 81-79 buzzer beater decision to the Brandon Bobcats. The first half was a close battle all throughout with the Wesmen holding a slim 23-20 lead midway thru the half. In the last few minutes of the half the Bobcats went on a 10-0 run to grab a 35-30 lead. Ryan Roper’s basket combined with Dwhyte Brissett’s three point play made the score even at 35-35. The score at halftime was tied at 37-37. The Wesmen were fortunate to go into halftime tied as they only attempted three three free throws compared to 15 for the Bobcats. The second half started out with both teams exchanging baskets until the Bobcats took a 61-55 lead midway thru the second half. The Bobcats looked to be in control until three pointers by Erfan Nasajpour and Matt Opalko cut the lead to two points. After Brandon took a 79-77 lead with just over one minute to play, Nasajpour drained a 15 footer from the top of the key to tie the score at 79-79. That is when heartbreak set in for the Wesmen as the Bobcats drained a jumper at the buzzer to claim the victory. Nasajpour led the Wesmen with 30 points. The loss drops the Wesmen’s record to 6-12. The team will face the Manitoba Bisons on Thursday night at the University of Manitoba. Game time is 8:00 p.m.

def Alberta 3-2 (28-26, 16-25, 26-24, 15-25, 15-10)

The women's volleyball team kept their playoff position with a hard fought 3-2 (28-26, 16-25, 26-24, 15-25, 15-10) victory over the Alberta Pandas Saturday night in Edmonton. Kristin Brisebois led the Wesmen with 20 kills. Nicola Dirks and Marlee Bragg also had a strong match finishing with 14 and 13 kills respectiveley. The victory gives the Wesmen a record of 11-7 and are currently tied with the Manitoba Bisons. Both teams are two points up on the Regiona Cougars who are at 10-8. The team will conclude the regular season at home next weekend when they face the Calgary Dinos.
