WESMEN 75 Lethbridge 48WESMEN TOO MUCH FOR PRONGHORNS TO HANDLE
The Winnipeg Wesmen started slowly but recovered in fine fashion defeating the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 75-48 Friday night in Winnipeg. The Wesmen trailed 8-0 early on in the first quarter but were able to recover, going on a 14-4 run in the first quarter to take a 14-12 lead. Winnpeg continued their assault in the second quarter outscoring Lethbridge 25-13 to take a commanding 39-25 lead into halftime. The Wesmen put the game out of reach in the third quarter outscoring the Pronghorns 22-8 to hold a 61-33 lead after three quarters. The Wesmen held Lethbridge to 24% shooting from the field, including a paltry 18% in the second half. Uzo Asagwara led Winnipeg with a game high 21 points in only 27 minutes of playing time. Fourth year forward Stefanie Timmersman had a strong game finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds. Fourth year guard Ciana Gregorio scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Pronghorns. The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 12-7 and combined with Manitoba's loss to Calgary, gives the Wesmen a share of first place in the Great Plains Division standings. Lethbridge falls to 3-16 on the season. The Wesmen will take on the Calgary Dinos (12-7) Saturday night at 6:15 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre. The game will be carried live on 1290 CFRW with Paul Edmonds and Steve Thompson.

WESMEN 88 Lethbridge 84NASAJPOUR ON FIRE IN WESMEN VICTORY OVER LETHBRIDGE
The "heart and soul" of the Winnipeg Wesmen was unstoppable on this night. Fourth year guard Erfan Nasajpour scored 43 points to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 88-84 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday night in Winnipeg. Nasajpours 43 point performance is the second time this season that he has scored more than 40 points in a game. The game started out with both teams scoring at a rapid pace with Winnipeg holding a 28-22 lead halfway thru the first half. A pair of missed Winnpeg free throws combined with two-three point plays for Lethbridge pulled the pronghorns closer at 34-30 with just over four minutes to play. The Wesmen were able to hold a 42-39 lead at halftime. In the second half Winnipeg spurred on by a combined 10 points by Nasajpour and Ryan Roper opened up a 52-46 lead four minutes into the second half. Ivan Saric scored back-to-back baskets, one on a highlight reel dunk to give Winnipeg a double-digit lead at 58-48. Nasajpour scored nine straight points to extend Winnipeg's lead to 67-53 midway thru the second half. Lethbridge was able to chip away at the Wesmen lead and did pull to a single point trailing 81-80 with just under two minutes left to play. A Nasajpour three pointer followed by successful foul shots put the game out of reach for Lethbridge. Ivan Saric also had a strong game for Winnipeg finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Scott MacKinnon led Lethbridge with 21 points, followed by Matthew Bekkering's 18 points. The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 9-10 and a soild second place in the Great Plains Division. The Pronghorns fall to 6-13 on the season. Winnipeg will host the Calgary Dinos (9-10) Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre. Tip off is 8:00 p.m.

Calgary def WESMEN 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18)WESMEN WINNING STREAK HALTED BY CALGARY
The University of Calgary Dinos put an end to the Winnipeg Wesmens eight match winning streak upsetting Winnipeg 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18) Friday night in Calgary. Winnipeg got off to a good start in the match winning the first set 25-21. The Dinos made adjustments and were able to win the next three sets to win the match. Martin Rochon led the Wesmen with 14 kills followed by Andrew Town with 12. The loss drops Winnipeg's record to 11-4, and places them in fourth place in the Canada West standings. The victory for Calgary improves their record to 3-12. The Wesmen and Dinos will meet Saturday night in the conclusion of the weekend series. match time is 9:00 p.m. (Winnipeg Time)

WESMEN 85 Calgary 97DINOS HOT START SINKS WESMEN
The Calgary Dinos were on fire on a cold, frigid night in Winnipeg. The Dinos connected on 54% shooting from the field in the first half as they went on to defeat the Winnipeg Wesmen 97-85 Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre. The Dinos ran away with this game early on building a 28-9 lead just seven minutes into the game. Calgary led 33-15 after one quarter, in which they shot an amazing 73% of their shots from the field. The Dinos had early success on defence as well holding CIS scoring leader Uzo Asagwara scoreless thru one quarter. The Wesmen made a charge in the second quarter led by Randie Gibson, who scored 11 points in the quarter, including three-three pointers, Winnipeg still trailed 50-32 at halftime. The Dinos continued their attack in the third quarter bursting out on a 13-4 run to build their largest lead of the game 63-36. Asagwara finally found some her shooting touch, scoring 13 points during a 23-10 Wesmen run to close Calgary's lead to 73-59 after three quarters. The Wesmen continued to launch three's at will in the fourth quarter as they desperately tried to get back into the game. The Wesmen did close the gap to 10 points at 89-79 with just over two minutes to playbut it was a case of too little too late as time expired on the Wesmen. Courtney Coyle and Michelle Wilson led Calgary with 22 points and 11 rebounds each. Coyle was a perfect six-for-six from three point range. Asagwara led the Wesmen with 36 points and five assists. The victory improves Calgary's record to 13-7. Winnipeg drops to 12-8 and second place in the Great Plains Division. The Wesmen will play their final regualr season home game on Thursday night against the Brandon Bobcats. Game time is 6:15 p.m.

WESMEN 84 Calgary 88 (Overtime)DINOS UPEND WESMEN IN EXTRA TIME
The Calgary Dinos completed a weekend sweep of Manitoba schools by defeating the Winnipeg Wesmen 88-84 in overtime on Saturday night in Winnipeg. Calgary started off the game strong as the led 37-24 at halftime. The Wesmen made adjustments at halftime and exploded for a 15-0 run to open the second half to give Winnipeg their first lead at 39-37 four minutes into the second half. The Wesmen held on to the lead until their was 40 seconds left in the game when the Dinos scored a two pointer followed by a free throw to tie the score at 73-73 and sending the game into overtime. Calgary managed to outscore Winnipeg 15-11 in overtime to earn their second victory of the weekend. Calgary beat Manitoba Friday night at the U of M. Robbie Sihota scored a double-double for Calgary with a game high 29 points and 16 rebounds. Ryan Roper led Winnipeg with 20 points, including four-three pointers. Ivan Saric had a double-double finishing with 17 points and 19 rebounds. Guard Erfan Nasajpour started slowly but finished with a triple-double of 12 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds. The victory improves Calgary's record to 10-10 on the seaon, while Winnipeg falls to 9-11. The Wesmen will wrap up their regular season home schedule on Thursday night against the Brandon Bobcats, the current #1 team in the CIS. Game time is 8:00 p.m. and it will be carrried live on 1290 CFRW with Paul Edmonds and Steve Thompson.

WESMEN def Calgary 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-14)The Winnipeg Wesmen played a better match and it showed as the y defeated the Calgary Dinos 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-14) Saturday night in Calgary. "Calgary gave us a run but we played a good match", said Wesmen Head Coach Larry McKay. Fourth year opposite Ben Schellenberg had a great match for Winnipeg, finishing with 23 kills, an attack percentage of .625 and seven defensive digs. The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 12-4, tied with Trinity Western for third place in the Canada West standings. The Wesmen will be on the road to Brandon on Thursday to face the Bobcats.
