Men's Volleyball vs BRANDON
WESMEN def Brandon 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19)
The Winnipeg Wesmen played a solid match as they defeated their cross-provincial rivals the Brandon Bobcats 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) Thursday evening at the Duckworth Centre. Alan Ahow led the Wesmen with 13 kills. Joel Small led the Bobcats with nine kills and three blocks. The first set was close all the way thru as Winnipeg held slim 8-5 & 16-13 leads at the technical timeouts. Ahow came thru with two key kills down stretch and combined with a Bobcat service error gave the Wesmen a 25-23 opening set win. In the second set both teams exchanged points as Winnipeg led 8-5 & 16-15 at the timeouts. Paul Kjos, who was inserted into the lineup came thru with the set winning kill to give the Wesmen the set at 25-21. In set number three the Wesmen were not going to be stopped as they kept the pressure on the young Brandon squad. The Wesmen led 8-5 & 16-11 at the timeouts before they dominated down the stretch. The Wesmen took the third and final set 25-19. The victory improves the Wesmen's record to 8-8, while the Bobcats fall to 3-11. The Wesmen will not have much time to savour this win as they begin a weekend series against the Regina Cougars starting tomorrow night at the Duckworth Centre.

Women's Volleyball vs REGINA
Regina def WESMEN 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-19)
The University of Regina Cougars swept the Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-19) Friday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg. The Cougars had control of every set as they held the lead at all the technical timeouts in the match. A big story in this match was the attack errors by Winnipeg as they comitted 31 errors compared to only seven by the Cougars. The Cougars dominated the first set beating the Wesmen 25-16. In the second set the Wesmen fell behind once again and were trying to catch up, but the Cougars kept up their strong play as they took the second set 25-17. In the third set Winnipeg raced out to a 6-2 lead before the Cougars went on a 6-0 run to take the lead once and for all. The Cougars took the third set 25-19. Kristin Brisebois led the Wesmen with 13 kills and Kaitlyn Jackson had 11 digs in the loss. The Cougars were led by Anne Fleming's 12 kills and Kelly Cowan's 14 digs. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 9-6, while the Cougars improve to 8-7. The two teams will square off Saturday night in Winnipeg. Match time is 7:30 p.m.

WESMEN def Regina 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-22)
The Winnipeg Wesmen played a solid match in defeating the Regina Cougars 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-22) at the Duckworth Centre Friday night. Third year player Ben Schellenberg led the Wesmen attack with 13 kills, while Richard Wiebe pounded 10 kills in the victory. Matthew Brooks led the Cougars with nine kills. The Wesmen had a strong defensive came by coming up with 22 defensive digs to only the 12 for the Cougars.The first set was a tight battle with the Wesmen holding slim 8-6 and 16-13 leads at the technical timeouts. The Wesmen led 24-22 before the Cougars reeled off three straight points to make the score 25-24 Wesmen. Jarrod Small came thru with two kills to give the Wesmen a 27-25 first set win. The Cougars put up a good fight in the second set as they kept the Wesmen within striking range, but key service errors for Regina and great net play by the Wesmen gave Winnipeg a 25-21 set victory. In the third set the Wesmen wore down the Cougars as they went on to complete the seep with a 25-22 set win. The victory improves the Wesmen's record to 9-8, while the Cougars fall to 3-12. The two teams will meet Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre at 6:00 p.m.

Regina 67 WESMEN 48
The Wesmen Women's Basketball team had their share of troubles as they were defeated 67-48 by the Regina Cougars in Regina Friday night. The Cougars led 29-25 at halftime. As a team the Wesmen shot 25.8% while going 0-for-12 from the three point territory. Canada West scoring leader Uzo Asagwara scored a game high 20 points and Stefanie Timmersman had 11 points to go along with nine rebounds. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 10-5 while the Cougars improve to 9-6. The Wesmen now lead the Cougars for top spot in the Great Plains Division by only two points. The Cougars and Wesmen will face each other Saturday night in Regina.

Regina 94 WESMEN 88
The Men's Basketball gave it their all but they were defeated 94-88 by the Regina Cougars Friday night in Regina. The Wesmen led 43-41 at halftime but were outscored in the second half 53-45 by the Cougars. The Wesmen shot a respectible 54% from the field including 7 of 12 from three point range. Ryan Roper led the Wesmen with 22 points and Erfan Nasajpour had 21 points in the loss. The loss dops the Wesmen's record to 6-9 and puts them two points behind the Brandon Bobcats for second place in the Great Plains Division. The two teams will meet each other tomorrow night in Regina.

The Wesmen completed a weekend sweep of the Regina Cougars with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-18) victory over the Cougars Saturday night in front of 1300 spectators at the Duckworth Centre Saturday night. Ben Schellenberg and Richard Wiebe led the Wesmen with 13 and 12 kills respectiveley. Trevor Shaw had a strong defensive match finishing with 11 digs. Colin Fraser led the Cougars with nine kills. The first set saw both exchanging points back and forth with Winnipeg holding slim 8-5 and 16-13 leads at the timeouts. Winnipeg went on to take the set 25-20. In set number two the Cougars hung on as the Wesmen only had a 8-6 lead at the first technical timeout before exploding out to a 16-10 lead at the second technical. The Wesmen took the second set 25-14. The Wesmen showed their dominance in the third set as they led 8-3 and 16-9 before completing the sweep with a 25-18 set victory. The victory improves the Wesmen's record to 10-8, while the Cougars drop to 3-13.

In one of their most important matches of the season, the Wesmen Women's Volleyball Team defeated the Regina Cougars 3-2 (27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 25-14, 15-13) in a thrilling match Saturday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg. The Wesmen came out with more fire and emotion than last night and it showed as they were down in the first set 3-1 before reeling off six straight points to take a 7-3 lead. Winnipeg led 8-5 and 16-10 at the timeouts. The Cougars fought their way back but the Wesmen were able to hold on for a 27-25 set victory. The second set was close all throughout until the second technical timeoput where the Cougars held a 16-11 lead, before taking the set 25-22. In set number three Regina was never threatened as they jumped out t a quick 14-7 lead before taking the set 25-19. The fourth set started out close with Winnipeg holding a 8-6 lead at the first technical timeout. After the timeout the Wesmen came out on fire with a key service ace by Christa Desrochers and two big kills by captain Kristin Brisebois gave the Wesmen a 25-14 set victory. The fifth and deciding set was a close affair with the Wesmen holding a 8-6 lead at the timeout. The Cougars went on a 6-2 run to take a 12-10 lead before the Wesmen kept fighting and eventually took the fifth set 15-13. Kaitlyn Jackson led the Wesmen with 19 kills and three blocks. Anne Fleming had 15 kills for the Cougars. The victory improves the Wesmen's record to 10-6, four points ahead of the 8-8 Cougars for the last playoff spot in the Canada West Conference.

WESMEN 65 Regina 59
The Wesmen Women's Basketball Team gave a great and courageous team effort as they defeated the Regina Cougars 65-59 Satuday evening in Regina. The Wesmen trailed 30-27 at halftime, with both teams shooting about 30% from the field. The Wesmen stepped it up in the second half and held the Cougars to only 29 points as they earned the come from behind victory. Uzo Asagwara led the Wesmen with 18 points, while first year post Nicki Shutz was a dominant force on the boards grabbing a team high 10 rebounds. The victory improves the Wesmen's record to 11-5, while the Cougars drop to 9-7.

WESMEN 75 Regina 77
The Wesmen were defeated 77-75 by the Regina Cougars in a close and entertaining game in Regina Saturday night. The Wesmen trailed 35-31 at halftime and were shooting 36% from the field. In the second half the Wesmen scored 44 points and improved to 52% shooting from the field. Erfan Nasajpour and Dan Shynkaryk led the Wesmen with 21 points a piece. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 6-10, four points behind the 8-8 Brandon Bobcats for second place and home court advantage in the playoffs. The Wesmen will face the Bobcats in a key home and home series starting Thursday night in Winnipeg and concluding Saturday night in Brandon.
