AWAY:

Women's Volleyball @ MANITOBA (Duckworth Challenge)
Manitoba def WESMEN  3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20)

The Wesmen were defeated 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20) by the Manitoba Bisons in the opening match of the Duckworth Challenge held at the University of Manitoba. Kaitlyn Jackson led the Wesmen with 12 kills, while Kristin Brisebois added 10 kills in the defeat. Kristin Brisebois was chosen as the Duckworth Challenge Player of the Game for the Wesmen. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 9-4, which places them in fifth place in the Canada West Standings, only two points ahead of the Manitoba Bisons who sit at 8-5. The two teams will tangle once again on Saturday afternoon at the University of Manitoba. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

Men's Volleyball @ MANITOBA  (Duckworth Challenge)
Manitoba def WESMEN 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 27-25, 17-15)

The Wesmen men's volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead but saw that lead dissapear as the Bisons defeated the Wesmen 3-2 in an exciting match as part of the Duckworth Challenge held at the University of Manitoba. Ben Schellenberg and Richard Wiebe led the way for the Wesmen with 18 and 16 kills respectively. Jarrod Small was named the Duckworth Challenge Player of the Game for the Wesmen. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 7-6 which puts them in a tie with Manitoba for second place in the Great Plains Division of the Canada West Conference. The loss combined with the women's loss earlier in the night gives Manitoba a 2-0 lead in the 15th annual Duckworth Challenge.  The Wesmen will head to Edmonton to take on the Alberta Golden Bears in a weekend series starting Saturday afternoon.

Women's Volleyball @ MANITOBA
Manitoba def WESMEN 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22, 15-12)

The Wesmen Women's Volleyball squad played tough but lost a 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22, 15-12) heartbreaking decision to the Manitoba Bisons Saturday afternoon at the University of Manitoba. Kaitlyn Jackson led the Wesmen with 21 kills, 16 digs and five blocks. Sabrina Barnes led the Bisons with 19 kills. The Wesmen played well in the first set jumping taking leads of 8-5 & 16-11 at the technical timeouts. The Bisons made a charge late in the set but the Wesmen held on for a 25-22 set win. In set number two the Bisons raced out to a 6-2 lead before Winnipeg went on a 4-0 run to close the gap to 7-6. The Bisons held leads of 8-7 & 16-15 at the timeouts. The teams exchanged points towards the end of the set which eventually was won by Manitoba 25-23. In the third set the battle continued with the Wesmen holding a slim 8-7 lead at the first timeout. After the timeout the Bisons went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-8 lead on their way to a 16-14 lead at the second technical. After the timeout it was the Kaitlyn Jackson show as she came up with three kills and two blocks to help the Wesmen ntake the third set 26-24. In set number four the Bisons took control early building leads of 8-4 & 16-7 at the timeouts. The Wesmen responded by going on a 6-0 run to close the gap to 16-13. The Wesmen held a lead of 22-21 towards the end of the set but were unable to score the final three points as the Bisons scored four unanswered points to thake the fourth set 25-22. The fifth set saw the Bisons lead 8-5 before the Wesmen scraped their way back in to the set. Winnipeg held a slim 11-10 lead but the Bisons outscored the Wesmen 4-1 down the stretch to win the fifth and deciding set 15-12. The loss drops Winnipeg into a tie with the Bisons for fifth place in the Canada West Standings with identical 9-5 records. The Wesmen will host the Regina Cougars in a crucial weekend series beginning Friday evening at the Duckworth Centre.

Alberta def WESMEN 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-23)

The men's team were swept 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-23) by the Alberta Golden Bears Saturday afternoon in Edmonton. Ben Schellenberg led the Wesmen with 10 kills and six digs. The loss drops the teams record to an even 7-7. The two teams will meet Sunday afternoon once again in Edmonton.

Men's Volleyball @ ALBERTA
Alberta def WESMEN 3-2 (15-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-18, 16-14)

The men's team put up a great fight but fell 3-2 (15-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-18, 16-14) to the Alberta Golden Bears Sunday in Edmonton. Ben Schellenberg was a force for the Wesmen smashing 25 kills and coming up with 10 digs. The loss for the Wesmen is their third in a row and drops their record to 7-8, tied with Manitoba who is at 7-7. The Wesmen will host the Brandon Bobcats on Thursday night at the Duckworth Centre. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
