The Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the Brandon Bobcats 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 26-24) in a rare Friday afternoon match at the Duckworth Centre. Nicola Dirks led the Wesmen with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Jen Restall led the Bobcats with 10 kills. In the first set Winnipeg jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before the Bobcats went on a 7-1 run to hold a 8-4 run at the first technical timeout. The Wesmen seemed to regroup after the timeout as they went on a 12-6 run to take a slim 16-14 lead at the second technical. Kaitlyn Jackson and Christa Desrochers came up with a pair of back-to-back blocks to help the Wesmen take the first set 25-19. In the second set it was all Winnipeg as they jumped out to a 8-3 lead at the first technical timeout. The Bobcats tried to get back into the set but the Wesmen took advantage of some Bobcats errors and held a 16-9 lead at the second technical. At the end of the second set Nicola Dirks came up with three kills and Marlee Bragg came up with two kills to give the Wesmen the second set at 25-15. In set number three Brandon played hard and took leads of 8-6 and 16-8 at the timeouts. The Wesmen did not panic and quickly went on a 5-0 run to close the gap at 16-13. Dayna Kiesman, a key reserve on the Wesmen got to see some game action and she was impressive coming up with three kills and a block to help the Wesmen take the third and final set 26-24. The victory improves the Wesmen's record to 8-3 while the Bobcats fall to 3-12.

The Winnipeg Wesmen overcame a slow start to defeat the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack 63-54 Friday evening at the Duckworth Centre. The game had a slow start as both teams came out rusty as the score was tied at 10-10 midway thru the opening half. The Wesmen were fueled in the first half by the play of Jenny Ezirim, who had 10 first half points and CIS scoring leader Uzo Asagwara who had 9 points in the half. The Wesmen, despite shooting only 37% from the field in the half went into halftime with a 29-20 lead. In the second half the Wesmen went on 15-10 run to pull away to their second biggest lead of the game by a score of 44-30. The Wolfpack used the three point shot to pull closer to the Wesmen as they were able to cut the lead to 53-47 with just oover four minutes to play. The Wesmen did not panic and the veteran leadership of Stefanie Timmersman, who scored all of her 11 points in the second half and the strong defensive play of Ezirim and Asagwara held off the Wolfpack charge and secured the victory. Asagwara led the Wesmen with a game-high 22 points, while Kelley O'Grady led the Wolfpack with 20 points. The victory improves the Wesmen's record to 9-4, which places them first in the Great Plains Division of the Canada West Conference. The Woflpack drop to 2-10. The two teams will battle tomorrow night at 6:15 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre.

The Winnipeg Wesmen were shooting the lights out on this night as they defeated the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack 99-86 in front of 1300 spectators Friday night at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen shot an amazing 51% from the field, including 10-of-19 from three point land to help them to the victory. The game stated to a very fast and hectic pace as both teams were able to score at will. The Wesmen continued their hot shooting and also settled down on defense as they built a 31-18 lead just past the midway point of the first half. The dynamic duo of Erfan Nasajpour and Dan Shynkaryk eached scored 15 points in the first half to give the Wesmen a 56-44 lead at halftime. In the second half the Wesmen got key three point baskets to extend their lead to double figures and the Wolfpack were not able to overcome the deficit. A pair of Wesmen players scored doublee-doubles on this night. Dan Shynkaryk, who rattled the rim with four slam dunks had a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. Erfan Nasajpour had a strong game with 19 points and 12 assists. Brent Traxel finished with 18 points to lead the Wolfpack. The victory is the second in a row for the Wesmen who improve thir record to 5-8, while the loss drops the Wolfpack to 2-10. The two teams will meet Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m.at the Duckworth Centre.

The Wesmen completed a weekend sweeep of Brandon by defeating the Brandon Bobcats 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-16) Saturday evening at the Duckworth Centre. Marlee Bragg led the Wesmen with 18 kills, while Nicola Dirks added 18 digs to go along with her 14 kills. Jen Restall led the Bobcats with 14 kills. The Wesmen got off to a slow start as they fell behind 8-5 and 16-12 at the timeouts. The Bobcats continued their fine play and won the first set 25-23. In the second set Winnipeg settled down and were able to hold off the Bobcats as they evened the match by winning the second set 25-22. In set number three Winnipeg showed their dominance as they raced out to a 8-3 lead at the first technical timeout. In the middle of the set the Wesmen went on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 18-7. Kristin Brisebois came up with three kills down the stretch to give the Wesmen the third set 25-15.In set number four it was all Winnipeg as they never were threatened taking the fourth and final set 25-16. The victory gives the Wesmen a record of 9-3, while the Bobcats drop to 3-13. The Wesmen will next see action on Wednesday night when they battle the Manitoba Bisons at the University of Manitoba.

The Wesmen showed complete domination in the second half which helped them defeat the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack 76-58 Saturday evening at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen trailed 34-30 at halftime but outscored the Wolfpack 46-24 to earn the victory. The Wesmen struggled early shooting only 32% from the field. Uzo Asagwara was the lone bright spot for the Wesmen in the half as she scored 16 points to keep the Wesmen in the game. In the second half the Wesmen got back on track and totally outplayed Thompson Rivers. The Wesmen went on a 22-7 run midway thru the second half to take a 52-43 lead. The Wesmen connected on 59% of their shots from the field in the second half to earn the come from behind victory. Uzo Asagwara led the Wesmen with a game high 30 points and Stefanie Timmersman finished with 20 points. Jae Pirnie was a force on the boards finishing with 10 rebounds. Sarah Cameron led the Wolfpack with 26 points including 7-of-8 from three point territory. The victory extends the Wesmen winning strek to three games and gives the team a 10-4 record. The Wolfpack drop to 2-11. The Wesmen will have a bye next week and will next see action on Friday, January 27th when they travel to Regina for a weekend series against the Cougars.

The Winnipeg Wesmen extended their winning streak to three games with a 92-74 victory over the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack in front of 2000 spectators at the Duckworth Centre Saturday evening. The Wesmen were never threatened as they built a 46-35 lead at halftime. The Wesmen once again shot a respectible 51% from the field while the Wolfpack struggled by connecting on only 29% from the field. The Wesmen continued their domination in the second half and extended to their lead to as much as 26 points which allowed Head Coach Dave Crook a chance to rest some of his starters like Erfan Nasajpour who scored a game high 18 points in only 24 minutes and Dan Shynkaryk who had a double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in only 17 minutes of play. Jeff Friesen led the Wolfpack with 14 points. The victory improves the Wesmens record to 6-8 while the Wolfpack fall to a miserable 2-11. The Wesmen will have the bye next week and will next see action on Friday January 27 when they begin a big weekend series against the Cougars in Regina.
