Women's Volleyball @ UBC - Canada West Divisional Playoffs (best of three)
UBC def WESMEN 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-20)
The Wesmen won the first set but dropped the last three as the UBC Thunderbirds defeated the Wesmen 3-1 in the opening match of the best of three Canada West Quarterfinal series in Vancouver. Kaitlyn Jackson led the Wesmen with 16 kills,while Nicola Dirks had a strong match finishing with 15 kills. Kristin Brisebois had 18 digs to go along with her five blocks. The T-Birds hold a 1-0 lead in the series. Match number two will be played Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m (5:00 p.m in Winnipeg)

TRINITY WESTERN def WESMEN 3-1 (16-25,25-20, 28-26, 25-17)
The Wesmen gave the number two ranked Trinity Western University Spartans everything they could handle. In a hard fought battle the Spartans defeated the Wesmen 3-1 in the opening match of the best of three Canada West Quarterfinal series Thursday evening in Langley B.C. The Wesmen put a scare into the Spartans winning the first set, but the Spartans regrouped to take the next three sets. Ben Schellenberg continued his fine play finishing with a match high 18 kills fo the Wesmen. Match two of the series starts at 8:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. Wpg time) on Friday evening.

UBC def WESMEN 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-18, 25-11) (UBC wins series 2-0)
The UBC Thunderbirds defeated the Wesmen 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-18, 25-11) to win their Canada West playoff series 2-0. The Wesmen hung in tough losing a close first set 25-20 and rallied to take the second set 25-23. The T-Birds dominated games three and four winning by scores of 25-18 and 25-11. Marlee Bragg led the Wesmen with 14 kills and Nicola Dirks finished with 12 kills. Kaitlyn Jackson had a strong defensive game finishing with 12 digs.
Men's Basketball @ BRANDON - Great Plains Division Semi - Finals (best of three)
BRANDON 83 WINNIPEG 77 (Brandon leads best-of-three 1-0)
Missed free throws and getting outrebounded were the downfall for the Wesmen as they dropped a 83-77 decision to the Brandon Bobcats in game one of the Great Plains Division semi-final in Brandon. The Wesmen finished the game 11-of-21 from the charity stripe and were outrebounded 51-28 by the Bobcats. The Wesmen looked good early on as they had a 23-20 lead midway thru the first half. The Bobcats went on a 7-0 run to grab the lead and one that they held at halftime. The score at the half was 48-43 in Brandon's favour. The Bocats connected on 7-of-14 three pointers, five by Chad Jacobson to help them grab the lead. In the second half both teams came out hard on defense, especially the Wesmen who did not allow the Bobcats to score until 3:30 into the second half. The Bobcats continued to wear down the Wesmen under the boards and had a 67-61 lead midway thru the second half. The Wesmen kept on fighting and pulled to within three points with two minutes left to play. The Wesmen had a chance to tie the game with 20 seconds left but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The Bobcats sank their free throws down the stretch to take the game one victory. Dan Shynkaryk led the Wesmen with 17 points and Ryan Roper had a solid game finishing with 16 points. Guard Erfan Nasajpour had a double-double finishing with 12 points and 10 assists. Game two of the best of three series goes Saturday night in Brandon at 7:00 p.m.

The Wesmen grabbed an early lead but let it slip away as the Trinty Western University Spartans defeated the Wesmen 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-10, 25-16) to win their Canada West playoff series 2-0. The Wesmen battled to win the first set 25-23. The second ranked Spartans caught fire and went on to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-10, and 25-16 to win the match and the series. Richard Wiebe led the Wesmen with 13 kills and 7 digs.

NASAJPOUR HELPS FINISH OFF THE BOBCATS...NEXT STOP REGINA
It was winner takes all, and guard Erfan Nasajpour made sure the Wesmen would come out on top. Nasajpour poured in a game high 41 points to lead the Wesmen to a 86-79 victory over the Brandon Bobcats. The victory gives the Wesmen a 2-1 series win in the Great Plains Division semi-final. The Wesmen will now face the Regina Cougars in the best of three Great Plains Divisional Final beginning Friday night in Regina. Nasajpour scored 19 points in the first half and despite shooting 50% from the field, the Wesmen held a slim 37-32 lead at halftime. In the second half the Wesmen had a rough start as two turnovers led to five straight Brandon points and a 39-37 Bobcat lead. The Wesmen took control of the game minutes before the halfway mark of the half. Matt Opalko nailed back-to-back three pointers which sparked a 12-0 run for the Wesmen and a 60-48 lead.. Second year guard Owen Toews drained a three pointer to give the team their biggest lead aof the game at 65-50. The Bobcats would not lie down as Brandon went on a 13-4 run to close the gap to six points at 69-63. The teams exchanged baskets until two minutes left in the game with the Wesmen holding on to a 77-74 lead. Nasajpour was sucessful on 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute to close out the series win for the Wesmen. Aside from Nasajpours 41 points and 10 assists, Matt Opalko finished with 17 points including 3-of-5 from three point territory. The team had a great team effort on defense especially Josh Sjoberg, Owen Toews and Opalko who held Bobcat Chad Jacobson to only nine points, including one-of-seven from three point territory.
