The Winnipeg Wesmen were swept on their home court 3-0 by the Trinity Western University Spartans friday night in front of 1200 spectators at the Duckworth Centre. The Spartans had their way in this match and were not even threatened on this evening. Trinity won the first set rather easily by a score of 25-14. The Wesmen put up a better fight in the second set but they were unable to even the match as the Spartans won the set 25-22. The third set was like the first with Trinity racing out to an early lead and maintaining that lead thru the second technical timeout as they built a 16-10 lead. The Spartans outscored the Wesmen 9-6 from that point to take the third and final set 25-16. Marlee Bragg had 10 kills for the Wesmen. Danille Foth led the Spartans with 11 kills. On defence Jodi Clemons had eight digs for the Wesmen while Julie Blackburn came up with 16 digs to lead the Spartans. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 7-2, while the Spartans improve to 7-2. The two teams will face each other Saturday evening. Match time is 7:30 p.m.

The Manitoba Bisons walked all over the Winnipeg Wesmen on their way to a 3-0 victory Friday night at the Duckworth Centre. In the first set the Bison's built leads of 8-5 and 16-10 at the technical timeouts on their way to a 25-16 first set victory. In set number two the Wesmen played with more fire and it showed as they had an 8-7 lead at the first timeout, but the Bisons took the lead at 16-15 at the second technical. Despite a great effort the Bisons took the second set 25-22. In set number three the Bisons built up a 16-11 lead at the second technical and never looked back as they won the third and deciding set 25-19. Ben Schellenberg was a bright spot for the Wesmen finishing with 17 kills and six defensive digs. The Bisons were led by Toon van Lankvelt's 12 kills. Winnipeg and Manitoba now have identical 5-4 records. The two teams will meet Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre. Match time is 6:00 p.m.AWAY

WESMEN IMPRESSIVE IN VICTORY OVER MANITOBA
The Wesmen came back from losing the first set to win the next three as they defeated the Manitoba Bisons 3-1 Saturday evening in front of 1000 spectators at the Duckworth Centre. In the first set Winnipeg led 8-6 at the technical time-out before Manitoba went on an 8-1 run to take a 16-13 lead at the second technical. The Bisons went on to take the first set 25-21. Winnipeg rebounded in set number two as they grabbed leads of 8-5 and 16-11 at the timeouts. Jarrod Small and Ben Schellenberg rose to the occassion in the set as Winnipeg took the set 25-18 to even the match. In set number three the Wesmen were led by fourth year outside/libero Marc De Spiegelaere who ignited the Wesmen with three kills and several key blocks to propel the Wesmen to take the third set 25-17. In the fourth and final set the Wesmen dominated from start to finish as they had leads of 8-3 and 16-10 at the technical timeouts. Ryan DeBruyn had three kills in the set to lead the Wesmen to a 25-17 set win. "We were more focused this match and the results showed", said fifth year middle Jarrod Small, who finished with eight kills for the Wesmen. DeBruyn led the Wesmen with 16 kills. Trevor Shaw had a strong match defensively as he finished with 16 digs. The Bisons were led by Joshua Klassen's 14 kills. The win improves the Wesmen record to 6-4. The team will next see Canada West action in January when the Brandon Bobcats visit the Duckworth Centre on January 5th.

SPARTANS SWEEP WESMEN FOR THE SECOND TIME
The Trinity Western University Spartans swept the Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 for the second night in a row Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen put up a better fight in this match but the powerful Spartans gained the upper hand in this match. In the first set Winnipeg took control early building a 8-5 lead at the first technical timeout. The Spartans were able to regroup and went on a 9-3 run to take a 16-11 lead at the second technical. After the two teams traded points back and fourth the Spartans were able to take the fist set 25-22. In the second set the Wesmen had slim leads of 8-5 and 16-15 at the timeouts, but the Spartans found ways to battle back as they took the hard fought second set 27-25. In the third set the Wesmen gave Trinity Western all they could handle but the Spartans went in for the kill and won the third and final set 25-23. Third year RS/LS Nicola Dirks led the Wesmen with 11 kills. Saralyn Raugust and Liz Spear each had 13 kills for the Spartans. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 7-3 while the Spartans improve to 8-2. The Wesmen's next Canada West action is in the new year on January 13-14 when they play host to the Brandon Bobcats.AWAY

WESMEN DROP SECOND GAME TO UBCThe Wesmen dropped an 83-73 decision to the number two ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday night in Vancouver. Fourth year guard Uzo Asagwara had another outstanding game finishing with 36 points to go along with her 39 points in yesterdays game. Stephanie Timmersman improved on the night before and finished with 21 points and six rebounds. The loss drops the Wesmen's record to 7-3 at the midway point of the regular season. The team will next see regular season action in the new year when they travel to Edmonton to take on Alberta on January 6 and 7.

WESMEN DROP CLOSE ONE TO UBC
The Wesmen played hard but were beaten 92-86 by the #2 ranked UBC Thunderbirds Saturday night in Vancouver. The Wesmen actually led at halftime 42-37, but were unable to maintain the lead in the second half. Erfan Nasajpour led the Wesmen with 23 pts, 8 rebs, and 8 assists. Ryan Roper chipped in with 17 points. The team will now prepare to defend their Wesmen Classic Championship at the end of December at the Duckworth Centre.
