GENERAL WESMEN NEWS

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen would like to thank everyone for coming out to the Wesmen Homecoming Event this past Saturday at the Duckworth Centre. Wesmen Alumni, boosters, parents and children had a great afternoon participating in basketball, volleyball games, kid’s activities and enjoying the great food.

The 2007 University of Winnipeg High School Boy’s Volleyball Tournament took place this past week at the Duckworth Centre. The tournament featured 18 teams from across Winnipeg, Manitoba and Ontario. The team from St.Pauls captured first place defeating Vincent Massey in the finals. The MVP for the second consecutive year was Chris Voth of St.Pauls.

The 2007 Lea Marc Volleyball Challenge will take place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The matches will be taking place at the Duckworth Centre and at several high schools across the city. For a complete draw schedule and all the up to date results, please log onto www.wesmen.ca

Season passes for Wesmen Basketball and Volleyball Home games/matches are now available at the Duckworth Customer Service Centre. The price is $50.00 which will entitle you to attend all regular season Wesmen home games for both sports. For more information please call (204) 786-9349.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Wesmen Men’s Basketball Coach Dave Crook has chosen his roster for the 2007/2008 season. The team will feature eight players returning from last year’s squad, four highly touted recruits and one walk on who impressed Coach Crook during the teams training camp.  The team has been practicing real hard as they prepare for the upcoming season. Coach Crook will have a first hand look at his team on Wednesday as they participate in the annual intra-squad game.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Head Coach Tanya McKay has been putting the squad through some intense but productive practices as they get ready for the upcoming 2007-08 season. The team will feature a good group of veteran players along with several talented recruits who will looking to make an impression this season. Coach McKay is excited to see how her team performs at the annual intra-squad game on Wednesday.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Head Coach Larry McKay had a first hand look at his team at this past week’s intersquad match. The team is continuing to go through intense daily practices in preparation for the upcoming season. The team will see it’s first action against Canada West opponents on Sept 28 -29 when they host the Regina Cougars for a pair of exhibition matches.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Wesmen Women’s volleyball team roster is set for the 2007-08 season.  Head Coach Diane Scott is excited about her team which features nine players from last year’s squad and eight first year Wesmen players. The team had a chance to show off their skills at the annual intersquad match last week and they will be participating in the Lea Marc Volleyball Challenge starting this Friday.
