Erfan Nasajpour, men’s basketball – Erfan was named MVP of this past weekend’s Pembina Chrysler Invitational Tournament. Nasajpour averaged 20 points per game, seven rebounds, six assists and seven steals in helping to lead the Wesmen go undefeated with wins against Fraser Valley and Concordia.

The Winnipeg Police Services and hundreds of Winnipeg School Patrol were special guests of the Winnipeg Wesmen and Pembina Chrysler at Friday’s Game vs Fraser Valley at the Pembina Chrysler Invitational Tournament.
GENERAL WESMEN NEWS
This Saturday evening, October 20th, will be a special evening as former members of Winnipeg Wesmen Basketball Teams will be inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Sandra Carroll (four time All Canadian and three time CIS Player of the Year), Jeff Foreman (three time All Canadian) and the 1992-93 to 1994-95 women’s team (tied a North American record for consecutive wins with 88), will be inducted to the hall on Saturday night.
It is that time of the year again, on Thursday November 1st the 17th annual Duckworth Challenge will take place at the University of Winnipeg. The men’s and women’s basketball teams will battle their cross town rivals, the Manitoba Bisons. Once again fans can get their Bisons BBQ’ed, as Bison Burgers will be served hot off the grill from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m as you enter the Duckworth Centre. The volleyball portion of the competition will take place the following evening at the University of Manitoba.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen team finished with a perfect 2-0 record to capture the Pembina Chrysler Invitational Tournament title for the second consecutive year. On Friday the Wesmen defeated Fraser Valley 85-74. Erfan Nasajpour led the way with a game high 27 points, eight rebounds, six assists and seven steals. Nick Lother finished with 17 points followed by Matt Opalko with 15 points. On Saturday the Wesmen defeated Concordia 94-93 in an overtime thriller. Concordia was ranked as one of the top three teams in the country last season. Dan Shynkaryk led the Wesmen with 18 points followed by James Horaska’s 17 points. Erfan Nasajpour was selected as the tournament MVP for the second consecutive year. James Horaska was named to the tournament all-star team. The team will head out on the road for a pair of exhibition games this weekend against McMaster and Guelph.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Head Coach Tanya McKay and her team are busy preparing for this Saturday night’s game against RMC in Brandon. The team is coming off an impressive showing at last weeks BOB FM Shootout where they finished with a 2-1 record.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The defending national champions were on the road for six exhibition matches in three different cities. The team started their journey with a three match set in Halifax against Dalhousie University. Winnipeg dropped the opening match 3-1, before regrouping and winning the next two matches by scores of 3-2 and 3-1. The team next traveled to Montreal, Quebec to challenge the University of Montreal last Thursday night. Montreal defeated Winnipeg 3-0. The following day the Wesmen boarded a plane and headed to Quebec City to take on Laval for two matches at the Laval Invitational. The Wesmen put in a great effort both nights but fell short 3-2 on Friday and concluded the journey with a 3-1 loss on Saturday. The team finished the six match trip with a record of 2-4, but Head Coach Larry McKay was able to play his entire team on the trip and was able to see how his team will look this season. The team will open up their 2007-08 regular season on October 26-27 against the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach Diane Scott and her team have completed their pre-season schedule, finishing with a record of 4-5. The team is anxiously awaiting the start of the 2007-08 Canada West regular season. The team will begin their trek for a national championship on the road against the UBC Thunderbirds on October 26-27 in Vancouver.
