WESMEN GONDOLA PIZZA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Amy Ogidan, women’s basketball – Amy wins her second straight Player of the Week award after helping the Wesmen to a weekend split against UBC and Victoria. Ogidan scored 25 points (12.5 ppg), grabbed 19 rebounds (9,5 rpg) in the two weekend games. In Saturday’s win against Victoria, Amy recorded a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds).
Erfan Nasajpour, men’s basketball – Erfan, a fifth year guard and team captain was instrumental in leading the Wesmen to a weekend split against UBC and Victoria. In the two games Erfan scored 51 points (25.5 ppg), eight assists, eight rebounds, and six steals. Erfan lit it up in Saturday’s overtime win against Victoria scoring a Canada West season high 41 points.

The 41st Annual MTS Wesmen Classic will be taking place on Dec.27-30 at the Duckworth Centre. Tournament passes are available at Duckworth Customer Service Centre for only $20.00. For more information or to purchase your tickets by phone please call 786-9349.

The Winnipeg Free Press Community Classic will be taking place at the Duckworth Centre from Dec. 3 -6. Teams with players 11-14 yrs old (girls) and 12-13 yrs old (boys) can still participate. For further information or to register a team please contact the WMBA at info@wmba.ca
The Converse Jr.Varsity Classic will take place on Fri. Dec 7th and Sat. Dec. 8th.
The Flanders Insurance HS Girl’s Classic will be played from Mon, Dec 10 - Wed Dec 12.
The International Basketball Classic will be taking place at the Duckworth Centre on Fri. Dec 14 – Sun. Dec16th. This tournament is open to all grades 3-12 club teams across Canada and the United States. WESMEN IN THE COMMUNITY
This past Friday night’s basketball game was WMBA Night, the crowd was filled with hundreds of WMBA teams from across Manitoba. The following Wesmen Men’s and Women’s basketball team members were recognized as being graduates of the WMBA:

Women’s Basketball – Caity Purvis-Collins, Catie Gooch, Rosemary Mills, Amy Ogidan, Mackenzie Prasek, Sarah Reilly, Jessica Stromberg.
Congratulations to the Tyndall Park 10 year old boy’s basketball team who were the winners of a set of uniforms on Friday night in the Annual Uniform Giveaway Night draw. The uniforms are compliments of Saxon Athletics, Winnipeg Outfitters and the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.
The Scoretec Basketball Coaches Clinic was held this past Friday and was a huge success and was well attended by many coaches from all levels of basketball in Manitoba.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen finished their weekend schedule with a split against two of the top teams in the Canada West conference. On Friday the UBC Thunderbirds defeated the Wesmen 78-64. Dan Shynkaryk had his best game of the regular season finishing with 21 points, including a pair of highlight reel dunks. On Saturday night the Wesmen erased an 11 point deficit at halftime to defeat the Victoria Vikes 70-67 in overtime. Fifth year guard Erfan Nasajpour scored a Canada West season high 41 points, including thirteen points in the third quarter to lead the Wesmen. The victory ended a three game losing streak for the Wesmen and evens the team’s record to 3-3. Head Coach Dave Crook and his team will head out to the west coast to take on Trinity Western (2-6) on Friday followed by Simon Fraser (3-5) on Saturday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Head Coach Tanya McKay and her team earned a split in the two games this weekend. In Friday’s game against UBC, Winnipeg was defeated 65-54. First year guard Amy Ogidan led the Wesmen with 15 points, including a pair of three pointers. On Saturday night, the Wesmen connected for 12-three pointers to help them defeat Victoria 68-57. Dawna Wright led Winnipeg with 24 points, including four three pointers, followed by Randie Gibson’s 17 points, including five three pointers. Amy Ogidan recorded a double-double 10 points and 14 rebounds. The victory improves Winnipeg’s record to 2-4. The Wesmen will travel to British Columbia for games against Trinity Western on Friday and the defending CIS champions Simon Fraser on Saturday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The women’s team showed signs of improvement in their weekend series against the Calgary Dinos in Calgary. On Friday night the Wesmen were defeated 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-22). Fifth year left side Nicola Dirks led the team with 12 kills. First year player Karen Montgomery had six kills and one service ace in the match. In Saturday’s match, the Wesmen played their best match of the year in a 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22) loss. Nicola Dirks led the team once again with 19 kills. First year middle Lauren Sears finished with nine kills and five blocks. Winnipeg sports a record of 0-6 in the regular season. The Wesmen will play host to Simon Fraser (0-7) on Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach Larry McKay and his team had the bye this past weekend but were busy preparing and training for their upcoming weekend matches against the Trinity Western University Spartans (4-2) on Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen currently have a record of 4-2.
