GENERAL WESMEN NEWS
The 2006 Wesmen Invitational Varsity Boys Volleyball Tournament was held this past weekend at the Duckworth Centre. The tournament was a great success as 20 of the best high school teams from Winnipeg and Manitoba participated in the two-day event. The team from Miles MacDonnell was the winners of the tournament as they defeated the team from St.Paul’s in three entertaining sets (22-25, 25-16, 15-12). Chris Voth of St.Paul’s was named the tournament MVP.

This past Wednesday evening the Wesmen Men’s and Women’s volleyball teams took part in the annual potluck dinner and intersquad matches. The event was a great success as the teams were able to show off their skills to the parents, boosters and their respective coaches who were in attendance. Thanks to all the parents and players who provided food and made the evening an enjoyable one for everyone.

This weekend the Wesmen Junior High School Boys Volleyball Tournament will take place at the Duckworth Centre. This year’s tournament will feature several of the top  teams from across Winnipeg.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Wesmen Men’s Basketball Coach Dave Crook has chosen his roster for the 2006/2007 season. The team will feature eight players returning from last year’s squad, five highly touted recruits and one walk on who impressed Coach Crook during the teams training camp.  The team has been practicing real hard as they prepare for the upcoming season. Coach Crook will have a first hand look at his team on Wednesday as they participate in the annual intra-squad game.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Head Coach Tanya McKay has been putting the squad through some intense but productive practices as they get ready for the upcoming 2006-07 season. The team will feature eight returning players who were part of last year’s team and five recruits who will be looking to gain experience and playing time this season. Coach McKay is excited to see how her team performs at the annual intra-squad game on Wednesday.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Wesmen Women’s volleyball team roster is set for the 2006-07 season. The team will going thru a re-building process as four of last years starters are no longer with the team. Head Coach Diane Scott is excited about her team which features eight players from last year’s squad and five impressive recruits. The team had a chance to show off their skills at the annual intersquad match last week and they will be traveling to Regina to take part in this weekend’s Regina Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach Larry McKay has some tough choices to make. The coach has several veterans and an impressive group of recruits in camp at the moment looking for a spot on the 2006/2007 team. The team played very well in their annual intra-squad game last week, which makes Coach McKay’s decision that much tougher. Coach McKay hopes to have his roster finalized this week.
