WESMEN GONDOLA PIZZA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jenny Ezirim, women’s basketball – Jenny was named MVP and Best Defensive Player at this past weekend’s BOB FM Shootout. Jenny was solid on both sides of the ball scoring 28 pts, grabbing 21 rebounds, 17 assists and seven steals in the three games, including a double double 15 pts, 12 assists in Saturday’s win over Calgary.

GENERAL WESMEN NEWS
The University of Winnipeg and Midway Chrysler present the 20th Annual Wesmen Basketball Coaches Clinic on Wednesday October 18th – Saturday October 21st. The cost of the clinic is $70.00 and includes seven clinic presentations, a Midway Chrysler Tournament pass (4 games), a Wesmen Athletic season pass and a lunch on Friday. The Midway Chrysler Invitational Men’s Basketball Tournament will be taking place at the Duckworth Centre on Friday October 20th and Saturday October 21st. The Men’s Basketball team will take on Lakehead University and Jamestown College in the two day competition. Tickets are available at the Duckworth Customer Service Centre. The “Dare to Dream” Breakfast celebrating women in sport will take place on Tuesday, December 5th from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. at the Radisson Hotel Winnipeg Downtown. Further details will be available soon at www.wesmen.ca.

The Jr. Wesmen 18-25 college team, played their first ever games this past weekend against Briercrest.  Despite only having a few practices together, the team played well but lost both games by scores of 78-65 and 90-65.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Women’s team got off to a slow start but finished strong at this past weekend’s BOB FM Shootout. On Friday night the Wesmen were defeated 72-65 by Lakehead University. The Wesmen rebounded on Saturday with a 76-73 victory over Calgary. Jenny Ezirim led the team with 15 points and 12 assists. In Sunday’s finale the team played their best game of the tournament blowing out Ottawa 74-42. Uzo Asagwara scored 23 points to lead the Wesmen. Jenny Ezirim had a great three games and was named the MVP and Best Defensive Player of the tournament. Randie Gibson and Uzo Asagwara were named tournament all-stars.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Head Coach Dave Crook and the men’s team will head off to Kingston, Ontario this week to take part in the Kingston Invitational Tournament. The Wesmen will take on the RMC Paladins on Friday and on Saturday they will take on Queen’s University. The team will see their first action at home on October 20-21 at the Midway Chrysler Invitational Men’s Basketball Tournament.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach Larry McKay and his team will travel to Regina this week to take part in the University of Regina Cougar Volleyball Challenge. The Wesmen will take on fellow Canada West teams Regina, Brandon, Calgary and Saskatchewan in the three day tournament. Please log onto www.wesmen.ca for all the results.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach Diane Scott and her team have completed their pre-season schedule. The team is now getting prepared for the opening of the 2006-07 Canada West regular season on Oct. 27-28 when the Wesmen play host to the UBC Thunderbirds.
