NASAJPOUR, MEN’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM FINALIST FOR MANITOBA SPORTSWRITERS AND SPORTCASTERS ASSOCIATION AWARDS

Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen along with the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association of Manitoba are pleased to announce that men’s basketball player Erfan Nasajpour and the Wesmen Men’s Volleyball Team have been chosen as finalists in the Male Athlete and Team of the Year categories.

Nasajpour, was named a second team All-Canadian and a first team Canada West All-Star during the 2006-07 season. Nasajpour finished third in CIS scoring (22.3 ppg), fourth in assists (6.5 apg) and first in steals (3.91 spg). Nasajpour was also named the MVP of the 40th Annual Wesmen Classic last December.

The Winnipeg Wesmen Men’s Volleyball Team finished a story book season by winning the CIS Men’s Volleyball National Championship at McMaster University in Hamilton last March. The championship was the University of Winnipeg Men’s Volleyball Program’s10 th National title. Head Coach Larry McKay and his team finished the 2006/07 regular season with an impressive 14-4 record.
