MEN'S VOLLEYBALL RECRUIT NAMED TO CANADA'S NATIONAL JUNIOR VOLLEYBALL TEAM
Tuesday, July 11, 2006 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen would like to congratulate first year men's volleyball player Justin Duff for being named to the Canadian National Junior Volleyball Team.
Duff, a 6'7" middle from Maples Collegiate was a Graduating All-Star in volleyball this past season and was also a starting member of the Manitoba Volleyball Association Provincial Team the last two summers. Justin was also a member of the Winnipeg Strike team for three seasons.
The purpose of the Junior National Team Programs is to identify, select and train a group of young athletes who have future Senior National Team potential and offer them the opportunity to train and represent Canada in international competition at an earlier age. In 2006 the intent of the program is to train for and compete in their respective 2006 NORCECA Junior Continental Championships, in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Junior Menšs team will train in Edmonton, Alberta until August 1st, when they depart for the U.S. Olympic Training Centre in Colorado Springs, Colorado for a series of exhibition matches with Team USA. Their NORCECA Continental Championships will take place August 6 - 14, also in Monterrey. The Junior Men will attempt to qualify for the 2007 Junior Men's World Championships, as they play in Pool B against Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic.
Duff committed to the Wesmen in April and will join Larry McKay's team in September.
