WESMEN MEN’S VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM ANNOUNCE 2006 RECRUITING CLASS
WINNIPEG, April 17, 2006 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and Men’s Volleyball Head Coach Larry McKay is pleased to announce the commitment of the following players to joining the University of Winnipeg Men’s Volleyball program next September.
Michael Mallin, 6'4 outside hitter, Collège Jeanne-Sauvé, Coach Cam Johnson,
Most Valuable Player 2005 AAAA Championships, All-Star 2004 AAAA Championships. Won Provincial Championship in high school volleyball in grade 10, 11 and 12 years. Multi-sport athlete, also won provincial championship in high school basketball in grade 10 and11. Graduating All-Star in basketball and volleyball.
"Great all round player and athlete who has won championships with teams at the provincial, high school and club levels since grade 10."
Greg Winiarz, 6'4 middle/outside hitter, Transcona Collegiate Institute, Coach Roger Labossiere,
All-Star 2005 AAAA Championships, All-Star 2004 AAAA Championships. Led Transcona Collegiate Institute to their first ever Provincial Final Four. Multi-sport athlete, All-Star midget football player with the Transcona Nationals (chose volleyball over football for university), basketball at Transcona Collegiate Institute. Graduating All-Star in volleyball.
"Great athlete who has won championships at the provincial and club levels since grade 10, versatile as he can play both middle and outside positions. Has won championships in football also."
Justin Duff ,6'7 middle, Maples Collegiate, Coach Sid Rosenbaum,
Graduating All-Star in volleyball. Starting member of the Manitoba Volleyball Association Provincial Team the last two summers. A multi-sport athlete, chose volleyball over basketball and track & field.
"Great athlete who has a tremendous vertical jump, played as a serve receive/outside attacker with his high school team, has won championships at the provincial and club levels since grade 10.",
Matt Hébert, 6'4 outside hitter, Le Collège Régional Gabrielle-Roy, Coach Michel Lavergne,
2005 Dennis Nord Award Winner (selected by the Manitoba Volleyball Association for the top graduating high school male volleyball player combining playing accomplishments, academics and extra curricular activities) All Star 2005 AAA Championships, team was provincial finalist.
"A left-handed player who can serve receive, is a great athlete with a good vertical jump."
Dan Lother , 5'10 setter, Collège Jeanne-Sauvé, Coach Cam Johnson,
All-Star 2005 AAAA Championships, Most Valuable Player 2004 AAAA Championships (Volleyball). Won provincial championship in high school volleyball in grade 10, 11 and 12 years. Multi-sport athlete also won provincial championship in high school basketball in grade 10 and 11, All-Star at the 2005 & 2006 AAAA Championships. Graduating All-Star in basketball and volleyball.
