Setting up NewsGroups for Groupwise 6

 

1. Click "Accounts" in the menu at the top of the GroupWise window.


2. Make sure that Auto Send/Retrieve is checked and then select "Account Options" from the drop-down menu that appears.


3. Click the "Add" button at the right of the box that appears.

4. In the next box, enter "News", then click "Next".



5. Enter "news.uwinnipeg.ca" into the box labeled: "News (NNTP) server. The other fields are filled automatically, so just click "Next".

6. Make sure that the option: "Connect through my local area network is selected, and click "Next".



7. The next box allows you to place the News folder wherever you'd like. You can just leave it at the default, and click "Finish".

8. When asked if you'd like to download the list of available newsgroups, click "Yes", then wait a for GroupWise to download the list. The list is very long, so it may take a few minutes.

9. Type "uofw" in the search field, and click "Search". Then scroll down the list until you find the correct newsgroups (usually uofw.faculty or uofw.employee). Double click on each newsgroup that you wish to subscribe to. A tiny picture of a newspaper should appear to the left of each subscribed newsgroup. Click "Close" twice.



10. You should now see a new folder called "UofW News" on the left hand portion of the Groupwise screen. Open that folder and you should see the newsgroups you chose to view. They will be available there from now on when you log into Groupwise.
